How do you continue in arcade games?

I’m curious. There are many games that seem to end very early even though I’m winning. For example, when playing MONKEY GEMS it says I still have 3 lives left, yet the game ends anyway. My scores don’t amount to anywhere near the record holders. Any tips on how to continue???

Not sure about Monkey Gems because i’m not really good at it, but some games like Alien Attack end after round 4. Wish it would go longer because I’m getting better at it.

Cubis ends after something like 20 rounds.
