RE: ITEM #460-393 – COLLEEN LOPEZ 3.72CTW NATURAL ZIRCON STERLING SILVER STUD EARRINGS
DEAR COLLEEN:

They are pretty earrings and they come with jumbo clutch backs.

I found an interesting article on zircon that was mined in Cambodia. It’s heat treated to turn a brilliant blue. It is brown when mined. It was displayed as oval gemstones at the Tuscon gem show. The trick about this is the color is unstable, and if in the sun for 6 hrs will lose 40 to 50% of it’s color. It will regain 60 to 70% of it’s original color if kept in the dark for 70 hrs.The article also stated that this fading quality, considered fair to poor, should be dislosed to the buyer. It is on diamonds dot net and is called “Zircon is back”. some interesting properties of this gemstone, is that it is mildly radioactive.I wonder if this ring I just bought, and the earrings, should be kept out of sunlight. Colleen said these were not heat treated, but after reading the article, I wonder. They don’t always tell us, as with glass filled rubies.

oh the Zircon is back article is on

?, good idea about the omega backs. I think they would have cost more though (more metal). Maybe she’ll consider your suggestion going forward.
