Rarities – I am stunned
I am sitting here listening to Carol Brodie talk about her 3 stone ruby ring. She is actually saying that she went to a jewelry store and asked the jeweler why his rubies were so much more expensive than hers, – his were thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dollars, leading us to believe that the quality between the rubies in her ring and this jeweler’s ring are similar. This ring has GLASS FILLED stones! That’s why her ring is $200! How can she mislead the viewers like this? For those of you who are not familiar with glass filled stones, look them up on line. Now, before you jump all over me, I am not saying not to buy glass filled stones and I understand they are affordable but I, personally, and it is just my opinion to which I am entitled, find Carol’s sales tactics horrendous and HSN’s support of them unjustifiable.

? i didn’t realize that they did that. do you know how they are glass filled, or how we can find out? i guess i can check out the thread that ? is talking about.

I am a fan of Rarities for its unique pieces and style’s and love the pieces I have purchased!
However, i am not a fan of any vendor overselling or misleading the public. That’s just wrong.
There was a thread about glass filled rubies, and basically it can’t be compared to an actual ‘ruby’ and is of little value or quality. All very interesting but beware!

You are never going to buy a REAL ruby ring anywhere for $200. I did not hear the comment but if what you say she said to the jeweler is true – you can’t compare the two and it is very deceiving to imply otherwise. It really bothers me when quite a few of HSN’s guests try to compare apples to oranges to sell something and I don’t think HSN should allow that.

I AGREE WITH ALL OF YOU. THANKS FOR REMINDING US OF THE GLASS FILLED. I’D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT PERCENTAGE OF EA. STONE IS GLASS!!!! RUBIES ARE THE NEXT HARDEST TO DIAMONDS, BUT IF YOU ADD GLASS, WOULDNT THAT MEAN THEY COULD SHATTER? ZACH12, I AGREE THAT I THINK THEY ARE TOO EXPENSIVE – AFTER ALL ARENT MOST (OR ALL) IN VERMEIL? HER THINGS HAVE NEVER IMPRESSED ME. I’M GLAD SOME PPL LIKE & BUY HER THINGS, BUT NOT FOR ME. TOO PRICEY FOR WHAT YOU GET IN MY OPINION. THANX ALL FOR POSTING…

If you want a better price look on Ebay!

I have never particulary cared for her line and one of the reasons is that her pieces seem to be too expensive for what you get. If you think you are getting real stones you should be getting REAL stones!!

Thank you so much for this information. I have been waiting for several years now, to find just the right piece from Rarities…and justify buying it. Now I know I will never buy a piece. Cannot live with glass filled, and now I can move on to a jeweler with the quality I want, and honestly represented. I watched so many shows, and never heard/knew that her stones were glass filled. Sad. Shopped HSN online countless times, looking at pics, reviews, and never saw mention of this.

I heard her say the same thing. It would be fine to say such things IF the reason for price discrepancy is explained…which it was not. It was a bit embarrassing as it seemed to indicate that we as consumers are less than savvy. :womanfrustrated:

Someone else had a topic regarding glass filled stones a week or so ago and in my opinion you are buying expensive costume jewelry. Most are not set in real gold either.Yes they are much cheaper but there is a good reason for that…They aren’t natural stones and they do not hold up in quality like a real stone either.I do not buy them and never would unless I came across them dirt cheap in a clearance sale.
