Over the Door Jewelry Armoires
I have a large Lori Granier (sp?) jewelry box plus two standing jewelry boxes on my dresser. Should I be ashamed to say they runneth over? I saw the over the door jewelry armoire advertised last week. I don’t remember who is selling it, probably Joy. Do any of you have it? Does it take up a lot of room or is it awkward? I can’t believe my Lori G. isn’t enough for my needs. It is almost as tall as I am with three sides that have hooks for necklaces and bracelets and places for rings. Plus one side has shelves. I need to curtail my jewelry buying (ha) and just arrange what I have without overcrowding everything. I have my eye on the over the door because it should hold a lot and not take up a lot of room I don’t have. I would appreciate all comments.

I own the over the door jewelry armoire. I loved it until my jewelry started to tarnish. I use it for my cheap costume jewelry and will probably sell it at my next garage sale. Great concept, but not for long term storage. I bought some of Colleen’s Prestige boxes, Lori’s from QVC, and Chuck’s from Evine. Chuck’s are the best with real glass windows, but pricey. I wait and buy them on sale. I have a total of 12 boxes from the three vendors and try to organize by putting all silver in one, gold in another, pearls, holiday, etc. if they redesigned the over the door jewelry armoire with the special tarnish proof lining, it would be perfect.

Hey, Pammy! I have two Over-The-Door Jewelry Armoires and love them! I have one exclusively for Heidi Daus as her stuff will turn ‘Plated’ jewelry brassy, *sigh*. I have another one for everything else. I’m thinking seriously of getting another one as my ‘Everything Else’ Armoire is overflowing, *lol*, (see Pic).
Also, I checked-out the ‘Jumbo’ Over-The-Door and don’t like it as much as the one that has the Swing-out Divider Trays for those hold my Butterfly/Clutch Back Pierced Earrings. 260-288
Also, while it true that these Armoires do not use ‘Tarnish-Resistant’ materials in their construction, (which they ABSOLUTELY should), I use the Anti-Tarnish Strips and Tabs to alleviate this problem. I got mine at Amazon.
One more consideration… every time you open and close the door you’re hanging the Armoire from, the bottom of the Armoire will bounce against the door ever so slightly. I used Double-Stick Tape to alleviate this. However, if you ever take the Armoire off the door, your door will be marred from the Tape. This doesn’t matter to me as I have no intention of EVER taking my Armoires off the doors I have them on, but, it is something to think about.

I got one for Chrstmas from a home goods catalog (can’t recall which one). It is over the door leading into our bedroom. It has helped me organize most of my jewelry, but could not fit some items into it. It is still a keeper for me.

Thanks everybody for your answers. It gives me a lot to think about. I think I would rather have another Lori G. one but finding a spot for it will be a problem. I need to get a bulldozer and get rid of some of the stuff in this house. How do people accumulate so much (asks the woman who needs another jewelry box) 🙂 I wish I could make your pictures screen size so I could see if we have a lot of the same 🙂 I’ve seen Colleen’s boxes and wondered if they would be practical for me. and y’all sound like my kind of ladies. Too bad we can’t all watch our favorite sellers together and buy jewelry. That’s my kind of fun.

I have a Lori Grenier jewelry box and the ring drawer is so shallow, I can’t close it if I put my rings in it. I guess it’s only for wedding bands in size 5. Is the ring storage in these deep enough? And BTW, shop around. I’ve seen these identical over the door armoires for a lot less elsewhere.

, I bought one a few years ago in black hoping it would be a solution for me. I did not put it over the door, and use a free standing against a wall with items that I tend not to wear too often. I have had two necklaces somehow tangleand then break when I opened it up. It’s not a solution for me. Although it would be great if it was updated to include the tarnish resistant t coverings, and add more shelving, and possibly some covering that snaps in place to protects the loose hanging items. There is a lot of opportunity to make it better.

I just want to share my experience. I was in my bedroom trying on many new clothes, & took stickers off & put on edge of armoire, to not forget to remove prior to washing. WELL, be careful, as I pulled them off lo & behold a huge piece of paper came off the armoire!!! I was shocked that the finish color is applied with a sort of wall paper. So, now there is a huge white paper strip showing on my ha ha “wood grain” armoire. Shocked, but of course hsn would do nothing as past 20 days. Horrible shoddy cheap workmanship. If u purchase handle with care. Definitely dont use damp rag, & actually thinking about it, some furniture polish may have enough water in it to bubble or peel. Can u imagine that??
