Jay King’s Jewelry all made in China
I use to love Jay’s jewelry, not anymore. It is all made in China. There are a couple of earrings that are made in the USA. I really am not happy about it.
It is a shame that he is doing this now.
I guess that is why it is cheaper.
I lived in Santa Fe and I must tell you that the beautiful jewelry is all made right there.

Thanks Carolina…….. I hadn’t heard that specifically, but I do know that Jay King was the one responsible for bringing Chaco Canyon to HSN and that he has been their mentor. Therefore, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to know that he shares his rough material with them. Thank you for bringing this to people’s attention.

Maybe I dreamed it but I am almost 100 percent sure that when Chaco Canyon was on air she has mentioned numerous times that the stones in some of her pieces were fabulous because she acquired them from Jay King. Has anyone else heard this?

I’m the first one to agree that waaaaay too many things are “made in China” and that China practically owns us and that it is NOT a good thing for America. However, THAT WAS NOT MY POINT!!! My point was, WHY jump on Jay King about this EVERY time his name is mentioned on this board?????? THAT was my point.

Actually, this isn’t bashing of anyone…or? The USA has the second highest TAX consequences globally for businesses doing business in the USA. It is hurting all our businesses, because they can go to other countries without the HIGH tax liabilities faced in the USA. Ever think why China doesn’t have large business productions here? Taxes, regulations, bureaucracy, more taxes, more regulations, and penalties if you don’t provide certain things to your employees…etc…etc…etc…
You want things made in the USA? Buy (at a higher cost) things made in the USA, hope they will survive, and remember this the next time you vote.
So you’re suggesting that we “vote” to get rid of pesky bureaucracy, regulations, and penalties such as… the minimum wage, child labor laws, OSHA and EPA regulations, etc. etc. etc.? Great, so we’ll be able to buy products “Made in the USA,” but we’ll be essentially living in China.

I just don’t understand the need to bash Jay King EVERYtime his name is mentioned on this board. Talented craftsmen are talented craftsmen regardless of their nationality. I have been buying Jay King jewelry for over 12 years and I think it is only getting better. Mother Nature MAKES his rough, man only improves on that. At least it starts out real…….unlike MOST of the jewelry on HSN. I’ll take real, any day. Of course, if you all are among those who have lost your jobs to someone in China, then I can certainly understand your anger and frustration. Otherwise, ENOUGH of the Jay King bashing.

if we continue to send everything over to China – who the heck in the USA will be working to buy these products???

Victoria Wieck’s absolute pieces are, also, made in China. I don’t buy her jewelry anymore. I, also, hate to give a gift of jewelry that is stamped ‘China’. Makes the gift look cheap IMHO.

One important thing to realize about things assembled in China, those people have been making jewelry and most of all, cutting stones for generations. They have it down to a science and personally, I want someone who has been doing it for years and is an “expert” at gem cutting rather than someone who is just a novice. Cutting stones the correct way is essential to whether or not it presents well.

After you round out stones you picked up somewhere, you have a bunch of stone chips on the ground. So you slice them really thin, attach them in a sterlingLESS mosaic, glue them down, slap on a piece of cheap glass, and sell it as a doublet.
And these pieces sold out. I just don’t get it.
Oh? I’m just randomly speaking off the top of my head…:-”

I like Jay King’s jewelry – when you figure the price versus quality as it compares to others who make items like he does, it’s far more affordable. If it was made in the USA, 50% of us wouldn’t be able to afford it, so I’m glad he does what he can to make it affordable for the majority.
I too love his designs – ironically more now than I used to. Keep up the great work, Jay!

I like to watch Jay’s shows, but I don’t personally care for large, heavy beaded jewelry, or his many brown and/or grey mystery gemstones. I really do prefer the Southwestern designs offered on the Q, because they are so much more colorful and wearable for me (I’m not a large person). Their designs are also more intricate and interesting, rather than just “in-your’face” big.

starsdancing – thanks for the info about Chaco Canyon. I always seem to miss their shows. I usually shop online for their pieces, but I really enjoy watching the vendor who represent them. It’s been so long since I’ve seen a show, I can’t remember her name.

I have been passing on Jay’s jewelry because it is made in China. I decided to order from QVC’s last Southwestern jewelry shows where the pieces are made in the USA. However, I did notice that HSN’s Chaco Canyson line will have a today’s special in June and their items are made in the USA.
