After calling emergency a half-dozen times, I upgraded from a Samsung T105G to an LG440G (only $5 at Freddy’s, double minutes).  (I also see that the Tracfone site has a refub LG800G for $5 plus ship).

How it works: As I understand it, when "08" is dialed, ANY tracfone will call your regional directory of emergency numbers (normally your area code, prefix , followed by 9911.) Then it will immediately call that emergency number, which we know as 911.  This occurs even if the phone is turned off!   

The digits "0" and "8" are right together at the bottom of the keyboard, so it’s easy to set off when, as the samsung, does not have a top cover.  My Samsung came with a carrying case, but, at belt level, i set it off whenever I  brushed against a cabinet.

The solution is that you need a phone with a top cover.
