What grinds my gears

People that feel the need to chime in all the time.   Seems some always feel they need to get that last word in.   

Getting rid of the smile counter would be great! Terrific idea! I like being able to smile on posts but why does everything have to be counted and kept track of? Super idea to get rid of it! 

But it’s part of the whole ranking system. Not the only thing that matters but it does play a part according to HSN. 

As for this "battle of one-upmanship" you refer to…like I said, I am perfectly happy for the whole ranking system to go away…but I don’t have to play a game of one-upmanship. There is no where for me to go. As was so well pointed out this week. 

herndon, you made 2 excellent posts, as did several others.  Thank you for writing them.  I think that some readers of the forum would be very surprised to find out that not all of the ‘people’ they have talked to were real.  And I’m not referring to the person accused of doing this and who seems to have drawn the most fire recently.

I think that this latest battle for one-upmanship could be solved by still allowing the smiles BUT by no longer posting a list of how many smiles anyone has.  Then they can be utilized for the purpose for which they were intended and not become a silly "I have more smiles than you do" game.

tempo, Many of the posters here have done and continue to do their fair share of volunteer work but don’t feel the need to discuss it.  Also, wanting fairness here or anywhere and doing your civic responsibility are not mutually exclusive.  And I don’t think it’s really about the smiles…it’s about integrity, honesty, and respect for your fellow posters.   

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again..the ranking system needs to be done away with. Completely. 

As for the smiles…I smile on everyone’s post that I like and thinks deserves a smile. I would hope that the people that smile on my posts are smiling for the same reason. I honestly don’t care if I get smiles or not. I have nothing to prove and no rank to achieve. I’m already at the top. 

I think I know where you are coming from.  I personally am not here for smiles or rank.  I just enjoy conversing with people with a little humor thrown in.  It keeps the conversation moving along and we all have a little fun.  Some posters boarder on being mean and I call them out in a humorous way.  Sometimes I throw myself under the bus as an example to get their attention and change their attitude towards others.

It seems preposterous to me that someone would go through so much trouble over chatting on a chat site.  I don’t even think the government investigates the most wanted criminals with that kind of vigor.  It’s so silly to me to take something like this THAT seriously.  This is just a pastime.  There are so many other things in life to worry about: sickness, family, employment, the state of the country, etc.

I used to post on the qvc forums.  Well, last year I posted something on that forum regarding the degradation of females.  Some other female posted me back telling me, if that was all I had to think about, I needed to get a life.  Well the constant degradation of females in the culture IS life and impacts on all of us, females AND males.  If I complained about a host or what the host said, this female would post me with the same criticism.  What we are doing here isn’t life.  It’s just something to do as a casual side note.  It doesn’t have any real bearing on someone’s life.
