Paid Reviewers

I agree with those “pre-sale TS” 5 star 22 or so reviews.  Then they talk about them on-air….not a fair and balanced practice in my opinion.:womanindifferent:

I agree with everyone above, I have bought a lot of things from HSN with mixed reviews. 8 also have seen the reviews that are being mentioned and not one have been less than 5 stars! They go on about how perfect the *products* are (yes I have seen multiple). That is my only issue. If your sending them out for “honest” opinions then people give them! I am a very honest person, I also have high standards. In saying that if I put out a product I would only accept the very highest of standards! From yourself and of HSN’s service. How are you going to get honest feed back if everyone agrees just to get more free stuff? Then you roll out a mass market and it flops??

Call me crazy….
But if a honest spot opens call me 🙂

I think HSN is pretty good about posting the bad reviews as well as the good ones.  Sometimes I have to sort them differently to get the bad ones.  The thing I have a problem with is that sometimes the item got bad reviews and is then packaged differently, maybe with a freebie added or a different quantity and given a different item number that doesn’t have any reviews.  Then you have to go on a search to find the product and get the reviews.

I’m all for the disclosure statements, though.  No need to be tricky.  Some of the bad reviews need statements that say the user was an idiot and obviously didn’t know how to use the product properly, IMO.  Or the ones where the user says, “I just got my widget in the mail and it works great!”  Well, how about using it for a week and let’s see if you really love it.  I take reviewing seriously!

Yes its human nature to appease those that give you free stuff to keep it coming. But it is also human nature to question those reviews.

I was asked by another retailer/distributor to rate beauty devices. I just said I will be brutally honest I have most of those tools professional versions. I will be comparing the two to each other. I have fair sensitive skin I react to everything. What do you know the list was full my name was just in case one of the others opted out. That told me everything I needed to know about those reviews.

Keep in mind this was not HSN. But I doubt I will be picked for these progams again. Because I would say the same thing. I will be brutally honest more critcial than if I just bought the item. Because an in depth review is the point. Or at least it should be. 

The ‘"Person received free product as part of an internal program” Statement at the top of the reviws is  Very New, but Very nice.

Previous to a few weeks ago, there was no such disclosure statement. SOME reviewers made mention of it in their reviews.

Other channels should also provide this disclosure

 (I have given three products a rating of 2. All of my other ratings have been 5. –  One on my 2 ratingsg went to a product at qvc. … It deserved a 1 … They deleted my rating and then they Bragged that the product had All 5 ratings. So,  I submitted a Second rating – stating that my first was removed/ deleted. … Q then deleted my Second rating and re-Posted my Original first rating.  – I don’t trust q.)

I find HSN the most "honest review" inclusive of all the shopping channels! I’m grateful they allow positive, negative, and problematic reviews. I tried to submit a negative review on Evine about a hair product that exploded in the box and arrived damaged. I asked to exchange it and was told I’d have to pay new shipping charges! So I wrote that in my review and received notice my review didn’t meet their "Community standards". That’s why items there are all 4+ stars or none at all!

  Ok, I finally see what you all are talking about.  The TS tablets, 8 out 9 reviews received the product free.

 Right under their name and before the review it states in italics:

"Person received free product as part of an internal program".

  Yes i would like to be part of the internal program!  Now If you have the time and are curious enough, you could start keeping track and see if it’s the same people on this program.   ME?  I  don’t want to spend my time.

  But it would be nice if someone could tell us about this program, who sponsors it, how people get on it etc.     ENQUIRING MINDS NEED TO KNOW!!!

EDIT:  And at least they tell us that the reviewer did not spend their hard earned money, so we can judge whether to accept their review.

  And if we didn’t have the right to know about this program, then they should not have put the disclaimer above the review!

Could they be talking about samples?

  Here are some maybes and maybe nots:

  Maybe some of these are "gift" items.   I have not actually bought anything here and stated that it was a gift.  I would think the "receivers" should do the reviewing, not the purchaser.  But in these cases, the reviewer is stating they received it as a gift, they did not purchase it.       

   I don’t see anything wrong with the receiver doing the review, after all they are the one using it.

  And maybe the one with the JM dryer, had one and it was defective and had to wait for one to come back in stock…so therefore was "given" one.   But then again maybe not.  lol

  I know Adam Freeman shows his "testers" on his show and they do reviews there.   Is it fair for them to do a review on the reviews here or not?   Not for me to say, because I see good points and bad points.   But how can they do a review  unless they are being purchased? 

I’ve seen quite a bit of it lately.

If I’m not mistaken  … and I’m  about positive that my memory is correct. Joy’s clothers dryer was back on line about a week ago.  (I believe it has since been taken down. There was One 5 review. The reviewer wrote that the dryer is now improved and that she was Given one.

So I guess we’ll see the dryer presentation soon.. 

If a vendor buys items in customers’ names and gives them out. Then those customers can review them.

How do you know that? And how do I enroll in getting free product for review? 

 HSN  requires payment  for what I purchase . I do give lots of fives …..cuz I  am almost always happy with my purchases.  Mostly I buy Heidi ,Korres , Wolfgang, Sharif  and  tried and true fashion lines that I pretty much know.  I  return if I do get something that is not as expected or can’t wear it .

  Are you talking about "reviews "  or  post on the forums?

Not sure I’m adding this comment in the right topic area or not.  Forgive me if it’s not the right place.

I left a review for the Mighty Jump and don’t see my reivew posted.  Could it be because I said it didn’t work and since it couldn’t even charge a Nook HD Plus, that I didn’t think it could start my car??

Do they pick and choose which reviews to post?  I was under the impression that all customers reviews would be posted, good review or not.  But now I’m not sure.  I along with others read the reviews for a "honest" review.  Hope my review was just left off in error or I may start rethinking my on line purchasing and the reviews I read.

I have seen some of those reviews. The reviewers State that they received the product Free. Recently, they have been popping up a Lot.

Also, there are recent reviews that to me, immediately seemed and read as Fake, Appointed or Promoted  Many of  these suspect reviews appear under Joy Mangano’s products. Some have come to the forum with these  ‘Reviews’.

So, reviews will no longer aid in my shopping.  I am alerted to ignore and disregard Reviews.

  I have never seen any reviews where they said they got the product free.

  I have received Lancome lip gloss in the contest on the forum, but there was no way to review it.   I have now purchased the lip gloss and will state that I have tried the product before so it was not the first time I used it.

  Maybe that’s what they are saying is they won the product (just one example) in the contests, and have now purchased it because they liked it.
