Flex Pay not for everyone
Would like to know why you bother charging a card when processing a flexpay when you end up declining the purchase? I now have $130 tied up on my debit card as you denied my purchase of an embroidery machine. Not sure why I was able to purchase a rug cleaner last month without issue. If you are basing this on credit scoring and in house criteria why bother authorizing the card for the full amount of the initial flex pay? Why not perhaps charge $1.00 to insure the card is legit and charge on SHIPMENT. You are amongst the few retailers that charge prior to shipping out an item. Guess I’ll take my business to Amazon.com who doesn’t CHARGE until it SHIPS! Now I get to wait a week and a half (according to my bank) for this authorization to drop off. Ridiculous!

I never realized this was HSN’s practice. Thanks for the information.

When someone makes a purchase, it’s the "total purchase price" that comes into play. So if you don’t have, the entire purchase price in available credit, then any purchase, whether on flex pay or not, will be declined. It’s really the ‘total purchase price’ that they’re looking at, HSN is just giving you the option to make it in monthly payments rather than all at once.

I agree . This same thing happen to me. I have a HSN card to boot. I will take my business some place else as well.

Hi alleyscrats….I’m sorry you’ve had a problem with your account. I’ve been shopping with HSN about fifteen years and I’ve never actually been charged for an item until it ships. Purchases are shown as pending on my credit card account but never actually charged until shipped. Authorizations for items not shipped have always been removed within a few days.
Again, I’m sorry you’ve had a problem. Have you contacted Customer Service? HSN’s Customer Service is superior!

Catherine me neither. I always get great customer service and they are more than gracious resolving issues to my complete satisfaction. After reading the posts I think I figured it out. When you make a purchase on a debit card then the money is not available for use and deducted from the balance so you know what is actually available minus the HSN charge. It doesn’t mean you paid but its still deducted. If you cancel an order it takes a few days for the refund to show up. Its like any merchant transaction. They cannot ship something unless the deduction is made and approved on the credit card. My refunds were always prompt within a few days if return. You just need to use the return slip correctly stating how you would like the return as in what account. So the charging before shipping isn’t so at all. My bank sends me transactions by email. My balance always reflects the total minus purchases on HSN in route! Hope this helps! Same for credit cards.

I’ve never been cancelled a flex in 15 plus years and HSN have never charged me before shipping.
I would ask customer service about it and give them a chance to explain.
-
That happened to me. They send a letter and will not discuss over the phone why the order was cancelled.
-
I CANCELLED A ITEM YESTERDAY, WHEN WILL THE CHARGE FALL OF MY ACCOUNT. I WAS UNAWARE THAT HSN CHARGES THE AMOUNT BEFORE IT EVEN SHIPS

I too got denied flex pay but they approved me if a HSN card. Doesn’t make sense at all. They canceled my order and I tried using the HSN and they sent me an email stating I won’t be able to. Crazy

Haven’t ordered on this site for a long time. Didn’t realize this is their practice…good to know.

HSN is a joke….. They deny flex pay all the time then give you a excuse that its not them.. I order a PS$ for Xmas and of course HSN over charges by abouy 80% higher then normal places. It must be for the convenice to make their customers unhappy. I had $1500.00 on my HSN card and did a 3 month flex pay so I can pay it off every month and keep my open credit low on my personal credit. So anyways I add it to my $1500.00 HSN card they charge my card and wait 3 days to tell me it was denied when it was supposed to be at my house tomorrow. Way to go. I will just pay it from Amazon it is $250.00 cheaper for the samething.
WHY TO GO HSN…… Also why cany you transfer people within your phone system all that over charging you do you should be able to transfer you customer and not make them call 4 different numbers and get no help at all. What is the purpose to you Customer service if they cant do anything but say " So sorry sorry call this number"

-
Same thing happened to me today!! I could care less I was denied but they took $130 and denied me. I called and was told I HAVE TO WAIT TO GET MY MONEY BACK?!?! That is crazy!!

Yeah same for me I have ordered numerous things from here with flex pay over the last 3 years, tried to order a new laptop for my son for xmas got 105 tied up, customer service rep said it was probably used a prepaid card. So cancelled it, made another order using my capital one credit card, for another laptop we and denied again now another 150 tied up. Guess I’ll wait for my funds to be released so I can go to qvc.

It sounds to me tht there is a lack of understanding on how debit and credit cards work. This is more of a lack of understanding of how debit and credit card processing work. While charges are authorized immediately, it can take several days for the funbds from cancelled orders to be released back to the account; this delay is due to the bank — ot the reailer.
