Flex Pay not for everyone
Would like to know why you bother charging a card when processing a flexpay when you end up declining the purchase? I now have $130 tied up on my debit card as you denied my purchase of an embroidery machine. Not sure why I was able to purchase a rug cleaner last month without issue. If you are basing this on credit scoring and in house criteria why bother authorizing the card for the full amount of the initial flex pay? Why not perhaps charge $1.00 to insure the card is legit and charge on SHIPMENT. You are amongst the few retailers that charge prior to shipping out an item. Guess I’ll take my business to Amazon.com who doesn’t CHARGE until it SHIPS! Now I get to wait a week and a half (according to my bank) for this authorization to drop off. Ridiculous!

Alleysrat, I am sorry to hear this happened to you. It would be frustrating and disappointing to place an order and find out you’re not going to get it. I would call customer service to find out what happened. Maybe there is a good explanation. I would take it a step farther and check out my credit report to see what is on there that caused this to happen. Good luck to you and hopefully you will be able to get this resolved.

Business going elsewhere bc of this one…thanks for the heads up!

Same exact situation here. I will never deal with them again. 1 week and my money has been tied up with no explanation.
-
This happened to me last week. Money was out for days and then got denied. HSN if you are doing credit checks don’t you have to inform us? I love HSN’s prices and unique items so I will still shop but it’s just disappointing and I always pay my flex pays BTW.
-
This is, in my opinion, the WORST of HSN; their policy on this needs to be revised by them forthwith! I had this happen to me when I first started shopping here. I was LIVID. When I understood how they worked all this, I never again charged on my Debit card as that is my ‘moveable’ money… cash-flow I need access to. I only charge on either my HSN card or on a different credit card now.
Tying-up peope’s access to their own money is, unequivocally, UNACCEPTABLE!
SHAME ON YOU, HSN… FIX THIS!

I do like HSN however they need to FIX THIS NOW………

I had to call my bank and have the pending authorization released 9 days after my Flex Pay was denied, after waiting for HSN to take care of it on its end.. Luckily I have never had a disputed transaction so my bank’s customer service team was more than happy to help me out.
I had no issue with being denied Flex Pay; my credit is not good due to some pretty unfortunate events in my past. Just figured I’d try, since I have to swing Christmas as a single mother with no friends/family nearby. Truth be told, I could have bought the bed set I was applying for by paying in full this week, but due to this issue, my money was tied up for something I wasn’t even eligible for until I took the initiative to call my bank and correct HSN’s issues myself. So, I will be taking my money to a different business, and you better believe everyone in my professional life has heard about this and agree that they wouldn’t shop their anymore because HSN does not have practices which put the customer first.
They authorize the first payment and THEN determine eligibility. Then the pending charge hangs there until YOU call and beg your financial establishment to release it. Some of us work over 50 hours a week so when we get off work the customer service lines are closed on weekdays. I have worked in businesses with pending charge practices and I have also dealt with many pending charges myself, and I have never in my life seen pending charges that you, as the customer, had to fight to have released.

I usually use my HSN card, but I sometimes use other credit cards or my Debit card. So far and to my knowledge, there has been no problems. But HSN, this practice (if as described) Needs To Stop! If this practive persists, I too, will Stop using any cards with HSN and take my business elsewhere.

I totally agree with you, I also for years used my debit card and now and then I would cancel an item after thinking about it and would have to wait for the shipping and first flex payment to be put back in my bank account
-
THis happened to me this week too. My money was taken from my account, then I found out I was denied for Flexpay! I agree with the others, why take my money, then tell me I’m not eligible? Guess I will just stick with QVC from now on.
-
Wow, that’s terrible. And now the run around? I’m going to be careful on this site.
Thank you for.the information, I hope they take care of this for you!! -
It sounds to me tht there is a lack of understanding on how debit and credit cards work. This is more of a lack of understanding of how debit and credit card processing work. While charges are authorized immediately, it can take several days for the funbds from cancelled orders to be released back to the account; this delay is due to the bank — ot the reailer.

Yeah same for me I have ordered numerous things from here with flex pay over the last 3 years, tried to order a new laptop for my son for xmas got 105 tied up, customer service rep said it was probably used a prepaid card. So cancelled it, made another order using my capital one credit card, for another laptop we and denied again now another 150 tied up. Guess I’ll wait for my funds to be released so I can go to qvc.

Same thing happened to me today!! I could care less I was denied but they took $130 and denied me. I called and was told I HAVE TO WAIT TO GET MY MONEY BACK?!?! That is crazy!!
