COMPARISON,.. HSN/QVC
Since people are always comparing HSN to QVC, I have to say what’s been bugging me for a long time. May not mean much to some, but it really bothers me.
On home page…When I put cursor over an item under “Items Recently Aired” or “10 Faves”, or any item showing….Nothing Happens.
When I put cursor over an item at QVC…..It Says what the Item is.
Many times I don’t quite recognize what an item is, so I have to click on it to preview it on another screen only to see that I’m not interested, and then have to come back.
HSN….I truly think this site would greatly benefit from this one addition to the site.
Well, people that visit that other site, what do you think, have you noticed this? Does it bother you?

I never noticed that until now, but no, it doesn’t bother me. I usually go to the Items Recently Aired page. More details on everything there. Did you ever notice there’s mouseover text on the images here? Try it!
What does bother me is that QVC doesn’t have brand links on the item pages like HSN does.

First, there is not comparison between HSN /QVC! HSN is wY more advanced. How can you even compare?? It bothers you that moving the cursor does not tell you the name of the product? What about trying to choose a garment and you can not see the color you want until check out , if then! With HSN you can see ALl the colors when you click on them! And a lot more! You order an item and arrives after a week or more with QVC. Also, the returnees are refunded after WEEKS from returning them. Anyway, I can not believe someone is trying to compare those 2! HSN is the best! Prices, quality etc.! Do not get me wrong, there are a lot of annoying things at HSN too but as I said , including Customers service , HSN is the best!

I think HSN is way better than their competitors based on price and variety alone. My only real complained with HSN is they no longer have a relationship with Discover Card where you get an additonal 5% cash back if you enter the HSN website via the Discover’s website. However, having said that; HSN’s prices are still better. The only thing QVC has going for them is “In the Kitchen with David” on Sunday mornings and I usually am not up to watch it or I forget about tuning it in. HSN provides a safe place to play games and maybe win a prize and a great community to chat and express yourself with other people in the HSN community and shop at the same time.. HSN’s hosts are enthusiastic and keep your attention. Where as QVC’s hosts put me to sleep for the most part. I will take a little extra clicking to look at a product over their competitiors any day.

Let me make this clear…..I have no complaints with HSN, I have been a cusomer since 1980’s
and have bought very little from QVC. I‘m not comparing the two in any other way than this. I’m very happy with all HSN has to offer, and they have always treated me with the best of service.
I just mentioned this one bug of mine, in passing, which many people have mentioned things that bugged them many times, and am glad to have gotten the response from all of you. I’m glad you all are happy or disappointed with me for posting this, we all have to vent now and then.
YES….HSN IS THE BEST…..that’s why I shop and play here.

The makeup lines at QVC are a lot better than HSN. IT cosmetics, Laura Geller, Eve Pearl…excellent. I like the clothing lines at QVC better too and I think the hosts aren’t as annoying. the clearance sales are better at HSN though.
One thing that really bothers me is when I ship to a UPS store in town HSN will charge an additional $5 per box, QVC has no extra fee. I don’t know why this is.

Personally, I see the problems at HSN as I.T. issues. It has occured to me that the people in the I.T. Department don’t actually shop the site. Which is why we, the actual Customers/Buyers/Browsers on the site, can pick to death all that is wrong with it, as you have Merce. These are the things that bother me most about HSN’s Online Shopping—>
1. THE BAD NEWS: When I shop a Brand, the ‘PREVIEW’ Button is smack-dab in the middle of the PIC— all but covering what it is I want to take a quick look at. Clearly, whoever designed this DOES NOT shop the Site; if they did, they would have known to put this Button above, or below, the Product Pic.
1a. THE GOOD NEWS: All the Colours of a Product are shown in little boxes and clicking on them DOES NOT take you to the Product Page; you get to see the change of Colour in the PREVIEW PIC, which is great! However, since the PREVIEW Button, mentioned above, covers the PIC, this feature is fairly worthless.
2. On these same ‘PREVIEW’ Pages, the ‘Item #’ is not posted along with the Product… it absolutely should be.
3. On the actual Product Page, there is now an ‘ADD TO CART’ Box that slithers in, from the Right-hand side of the Page, (and keeps Scrolling down as one Scrolls down the Page), that covers so much information that it’s just plain ‘Tear Your Hair Out’ aggravating! Again, whoever designed this IS NOT a shopper on the Site.
To add Insult-To-Injury, the ‘X’ that allows one to ‘Close The Box’ does not show-up on my Screen. I have to Manually change the ‘Zoom’ of my screen to a much smaller Screen so that the ‘X’ shows itself and I can close the Box. Then, I have to, once again, Manually change the ‘Zoom’ back again so that I can actually ‘SEE/READ’ the Page.
This UTTER AGGRAVATION causes me, and perhaps many others, to just say ‘**** IT!’ and leave.
4. The god-forsaken ‘WHITE BAR’ at the Top of every Page on the Site, (the one that keeps Scrolling down as one Scrolls down a Page), is another ‘Beyond Belief’ aggravation and should be removed forthwith.
5. The ‘ARROW’ that allows us, here on the Forums, to quickly and easily Scroll through the Pages and Pages of a Thread has been removed for, at least, Two-Weeks now. This has made it all but impossible to follow the Conversations in a Thread. Whoever designed, and whoever approved, this Change, should both be FIRED forthwith!
6. I do not understand, nor will I EVER understand, WHY the continual RESPONSES to a POST are not in order TOP-TO-BOTTOM but rather from the Bottom up. WHOEVER designed this should also be FIRED forthwith!
I, like others, could go on-and-on but, when it actually comes down to ‘DOLLARS & CENTS’, for every 1 thing I buy from QVC, for every 3 things I buy from Evine, I buy 20 things from HSN. I don’t care about Hosts, nor do I care about Vendors… I CARE ABOUT PRODUCT. I Shop Online for the CONVENIENCE of getting what I want/need without leaving my house. I DO NOT Shop Online to be pleasantly entertained/totally turned-off by a Host or Vendor.
In the end, I just like HSN’s Products better than the other shopping channels’ offerings.

the only and paramount thing i have to say about the q versus hsn is that the q has increased their prices TREMENDOUSLY over the last few years making it impossible for average/working people to shop there anymore. i mean would you shell out sometimes over $1k for a “GILI” (“GOT IT, LOVE IT”)
“brand” (this line of items was started as a “pet project” of and by former q show host, the notorious lisa robertson) leather bag on the q- which may or may not even come with a dust bag???? i’m sorry but for $1k that handbag better be dipped in gold or come with a “chanel”, “fendi” “chloe” “gucci” type designer name with it. or, better yet, i can use that money here on hsn for a very nice shopping spree- all with high quality and well-made items. so shame on you, q!!! unbelievable. thanks for putting the customer first, hsn. love it.oh, sigh.. xoxo

ok, if we are going to “dish” on hsn it (TECH/WEBSITE SUPPORT) problems, here is my only pet peeve AND it has been for many years AND i have notified hsn about the issue several times.
if you go to “order status” page, on the left there is a column of choices.
the “track easy returns” choice HAS NEVER, EVER WORKED!!!
I’M TALKING FOR YEARS!!!!
i have repeatedly told hsn/hsn tech support to either FIX IT SO THE OPTION WORKS
OR PUT SOME OTHER FEATURE THERE BECAUSE RIGHT NOW IT IS JUST
OCCUPYING SPACE.
SO, there you have it folks. my hsn website pet peeve.

I have to admit one thing I like about QVC is there auto delivery notice they will send you a email letting you know that you auto delivery is coming up (and allow you to cancel ) if you no longer want the item with HSN I sometime forget I ordered something with auto delivery only to find that it shipped and cannot be cancel. I hate to say this but I do have a couple GILI purses and the only reason I have them I go to the QVC outlet store when they have a special on all purses I could not and would not pay the price for the on air price
