I have always loved clay. I too have made items with slab I made a box once fired it and then glazed it. Yes years ago that was my career. I do miss it but one has to do what they have to do. Yes it can get complicated. Things have to be done just right or one could have a mess.

For me it really was the reward of seeing others create their own and take the pride in it that they did. I always felt so rewarded when my students saw their finished piece for the first time. the smile on their face and the comment they would say “I made that really” I would say yes you did and what a great job they did too.

I too am glad that others have enjoyed my silliness crafting. Yes the bear looks much better with the ear change.

  I thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread.  Once again your step-by-step instructions are so informative.  It’s as though we are looking over your shoulder watching you make your projects.  I’m glad that VelveteenRabbit and I ‘got you going’ again. :womanlol: So many people have enjoyed your posts and pics.  I’m glad that you changed the ears.  The ones you have are much better!!

I really enjoyed reading about how you got started in arts and crafts.  I didn’t realize that you had that much expertise in ceramics.

Thanks for showing us some of your ceramic projects.  Those are really great.  I made one ceramic piece and had real trouble getting the different colors in the correct place as they did not show up on the unfired project like they did in the finished one!   I used slab clay that I cut out and formed (well tried to form!)   And it was nowhere as complicated as yours–just 2 colors.  My folks of course thought it was perfect.  LOL

That truly is an accomplishment, to be able to do such nice work like that!!  I do hope you’ll get a chance to see my post before they shut down the community site???  I don’t know what’s going on with all that…..but I hope I’m not too late to let you know that I really do appreciate your taking the time to explain your art process to me, and to post the pictures.  It was a treat to see!!

I remember HSN when it was Home Shopping Club, and they used to sell all that Capo Dimonte

(spelling?)  stuff, all the time.  Your work is a LOT better than that!  Especially the raccoon, which is my favorite…..he or she looks really looks like they’re having a nice little nap!  All your pieces are

Here is your request. I have only a small amount of things that I made back then. Ceramics most like that cup you drink your coffee or tea in is more then likely ceramic, porcelain, stoneware or if you are very fancy bone china.

I drink my tea in a cheap 1.00 usd ceramic mug. GW. thrift shop. lolo

Ceramics is a process used with Slip liquid clay and a plaster mold. Once your item is cast from the mold you then have to prep what is called greenware for the kiln and then to be made into a nick knack or a usable item IE a coffee mug or serving ware. I could explain the process blow by blow. With that said it would take a while for me to type it out. If you have a ceramic studio or shop near by. You could always go there and check it out. I found with my studio and my craft back then to be very rewarding and a self a steam bulilder.Not to mention an accomplishment.

Here are some pictures as per your request. these items are very old now over 30years old. That is how long ago it was for me. I sold my creations back then. I only kept these few items that will more then likely head to the GW thrift store some time this year.

Two of the items are done in what is called a opaque stain then sealed with a high gloss spray to keep the colors from fading.

One item is done with two different glazes. a satin glaze chest and mat green glaze body. the two glazes are butted together before they went for there last fire in my kiln

First up is my raccoon Opaque stains then spray with high gloss spray.

Next up is my frog two different glazes and butted together.

last is my gnome opaque stain and high gloss spray

there you have it the few pieces That I have left.

done it in the past, but since I’m new to this forum, I’ve never seen them.  And I’d love to!

I used to look in awe at some of the advanced students doing pottery in my summer

crafts class…..they were making really professional-type things.  So if you ever have

Just wanted to pop in and see what everyone is doing. I’m heading over to the craft event thread to post more of my wish list.  please post your thoughts on the embossing kit. I just discovered all the ScanNCut goodies in new arrivals and that went into my favorites as soon as I saw it!  I rushed over to YouTube to check out videos on it, but I always value your opinion above those.

I’m not sure I’m posting this in the right spot, but just want to thank VelveteenRabbit7 for the kind words….I hope to have a new HSN cartoon up this week!  Well, if I have some good luck, it’ll happen!  I’m close to being done with it, anyway….fingers crossed!

And to CupaTea….that Sumi Chinese brush painting sounds fun!  (and challenging!).  I actually subscribe to an email newsletter from some company that sells that sort of stuff–I can’t remember what it’s called right now, but it’s interesting to see all the different inks and supples they have.

I like working with traditional pen and ink, but I’m thankful for pens like Pigma Microns by Sakura, too.

It’s funny that you should mention Julie Fei Fan Blazer…..I first saw her on some of the

PBS crafting shows, and thought she was really good, too!  I was actually following

along with some of her stuff until our computer went crazy serveral months ago, and

it lost our list of “favorites” when our computer got fixed….so, I forgot to add her

back on, but now I have done it since you mentioned her.  So, thanks for that!

Very happy to see her on HSN from time-to-time.  Didn’t know they knew about

her, but I’m very glad they do–she has lots of awesome tips to share!

I’ve always loved anything to do with arts & crafts, and did pretty well with it in

school.  I really liked the Commercial Art course I took in High School, too, and

had hoped to take more classes like it in college….only got a couple of courses

in, though, (due to difficult circumstances, which my family is still dealing with

like illness, etc.)  So, I do what I can, now.  I especially like cartooning right now,

as it’s fun to give folks a little laugh, these days…..we can ALL use that, I think!

Also, drawing and inking is one of the least expensive art things one can do….so,

that works for me!

I’m the one who did the “Crafting Day” cartoon, last time, with the little cat.  You guys

seemed to like it, so I may post up another HSN-themed cartoon I’ve been working on,

soon.  HSN provides a lot of fun ideas for me; as they cover so many different areas.

Very glad your teachers encouraged you to pursue art…….good teachers like that

are invaluable.  We need lots more like them in our schools, for sure!

Yes the felt does give him a furry look:smileyhappy:I can see it made in a cotton however. I have tie die fabric and looked at that but it did not do it for me. Like I said I have a bunch of cheap felt. Need to really figure out what to make with and use it up. I could cut out letters and flowers and numbers and make a bunch of that like you can buy in the store. I really do not have a use for that right now.

My  favorite art teacher was when I was in high school. I too threw on the wheel in high school. Did get an A in art all the time. I loved throwing on the wheel. Good for you keep those memories. They are the best to look back on. Sometimes I try to remember some of the things I did in art class both grammar and High school. I should have really gone on to college and took the arts but life got in the way and plus I was already teaching my ceramic classes.

As an adult I took ceramic classes and had a wonderful teacher there. I started in the fall of that year and by the spring I was in ceramic certification classes as the teacher seriously encouraged me to take them and get certified. I was first certified with a well know ceramic product. I then went on and gained many more certifications then and when I had my own studio. I really did love it. Guess the mud pies I made as a child was maybe an indication.LOL I loved teaching and now I am just teaching myself.

I do not do the face b place or any of the other social media sites. I look at some but only to do with the scan n cut and of Julie Fei Fan Blazer. Now that is a teacher and an outstanding crafting lady.

She is the spokes person for Brother and the scan n cut. Do a search for her and you will find her sites of scan n cut and her own art creations. Fantastic. Julie is really my inspiration these days.:heart: I hope she will be here on the craft day coming up. Julie demonstrates the Brother Scan N Cut Cm 350.

 If you do create crafts or what ever creative outlet you have Please post them up.  I would really love to see others items coloring book coloring, cricut and the other die cutting machines that HSN sells, sewing, knitting painting, cooking any of the crafting that everyone does. I think it would be wonderful if we craftiers got together and showed what we do. I would really love it.:smileyhappy:

CupaTea, just wanted to say that I think the felt really works on that bear because it gives him a nice, “furry” look……which every bear probably wants!  LOL  So interesting to learn you were a ceramics teacher….one of my nicest art teachers in high school was the pottery teacher, so I have good memories of that!  It was only a summer course, but I really did enjoy it.

I will try to come on here more often and talk arts n’ crafts with you guys…..you seem like a nice group of folks, and it’s hard to find good forums these days where you can actually discuss stuff like this.

A lot of groups now are on on Facebook, which doesn’t work that well for back-and-forth discussions, and sharing crafty thoughts, etc.  So, thank you for the nice welcome–and I will be back!

Hello, , I first saw a pic of your little guy cutout posted on another thread and thought I’d stop in to see if you wrestled him yet. It is absolutely adorable and I’m in agreement with others, you made an improvement to the ears.! You should think about getting together with your coloring friend, you never know what you may imagine into reality. And you are a very good instructor. Did you ever teach?

You really should find someone to give him to. Stuffed bears are special. I literally had one from the age of five til I was nearly fifty. It was more thread than actual fabric. There was nothing left to repair!

Thank you for sharing your crafting with us CupaTea. I thought my crafting days were long gone but, you are inspiring so I’ll keep watching and maybe you can help me break my artistic block.
