I absolutely LOVE Joy’s Huggable Hangers!!
I wanted to let people know how much my family and I have loved using Joy Mangano’s Huggable Hangers over the years. We have found them to be the absolute best hangers we have ever used. And, in my opinion, they still are the best hangers on the market–hands down.
We have some that we got in the 90’s, others that we were given to us little later, and some I have bought within the past few months. I have not seen a change in the quality at all over the years. They have never gotten brittle or given us any problems whatsoever. We have never had a single hook come out. I have particularly liked how I can put damp or even dripping wet garments on them without any problems.
All my hangers are the Linen color with the brass hooks. The older ones still look as nice as the newer ones.
I like that they can safely hold my silkier items (without those garments sliping off like they did with previous plastic hangers).
It was amazing to me when I first started using these hangers that they worked for suits (men and women’s) and even really heavy winter coats without buckling or breaking.
Someone bought me some H.H. knockoffs a few years ago, and I was shocked at how badly they preformed. Several of the hooks came out almost immediately and other of the hangers just broke. Also, I did not find the velvety finish was as nice as Joy’s hangers were.
I’d like to tell you how my family got started using Huggable Hangers. I am hoping that it might help someone out there if they could see how they worked for a real family.
My mother had a light stroke and some memory issues and was told by her doctor that she could no longer live on her own (she was messing up her medicine dosages). At the time, my sister and I both had professional jobs. My sister wanted to put her in a nursing home, but my husband and I felt uncomfortable with that. We prayed about it and came away knowing that we could not do everything well, but that we could do the most important things well. At the top of the list of those “most important things” was having my mother come live with us and for us to take care good of her. It wasn’t always easy, but we were so glad we could do it.
I resigned my job, started a part-time consulting business, and began taking care of my mother. Soon after, my husband got a job in another state. We had to get a substantially smaller (about 1000 SF less) house because it was more expensive to live in the new area and we could not afford the same size house we had before.
PROBLEM: How to get all our stuff in the now limited closet space. SOLUTION: Enter Huggable Hangers.
When I first saw Joy’s demonstration on HSN of how she could drastically increase her closet space by switching from ordinary hangers to Huggable Hangers, I was duely impressed. If I could increase my closet space even a fraction of the amount she did, I would have been grateful.
After I opened the first box of hangers, the first thing I noticed was the quality. I was impressed again when I began switching out the hodge-podge of existing hangers we had in our closets for the Huggable Hangers. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I was able to increase the amount of clothing I could get in our closets by at least a third or more! Those things really did work!
Not only did HHs give us more closet space, but they also helped me get mother’s clothes better organzied. Since my mother was having some memory/cognitivey problems, she experienced difficulty in putting her clothes together so they would match, which made her sad, as she had always taken pains to look good. I was glad that this was an area in which we could be of help.
After I took my mother’s things out of the dryer , I would hang complete outfits (top, pants or skirt, sweater, etc) on one Huggable Hanger. This way, she only had to pull out one hanger out of the closet with everything on it. She had fewer choices, which she could better manage, which made her feel good.
I have also found that the whole family could use the same strategy when we packed for trips. Having a whole outfit on one hanger made packing easier and more compact. And, we found we were less likely to forget things.
Those hangers for hanging multiple items really are terrific. I use them not only for pants and knit skirts but for storing scarves as well. I put all my olive scarves, for example, on one of those multi-rung hangers. It allows me to see all the scarves in that color at a glance and to quickly find just the right one to go with my outfit.
Thanks, Joy for inventing these terrific hangers and thanks to HSN, as well, for selling them (and all of Joy’s products). My family and I really appreciate it.
