Women and calcium
My gynecologist actually advised me to take less calcium. She said too much calcium can cause cardiovascular disease. I would try some other of Andrew Lessman’s vitamins but he adds extra calcium so I can’t.
You should check to see what your doctors advise.

Vit. D3 is a good option.

I think I saw a presentation where Lessman said he has K2 in his formulas to counter the calcium. There is a book about this called “K2 and the Calcium Paradox” that details this problem. I don’t take a K2 supplement, but to get enought K2 I eat a little gouda or brie cheese each day (there was even a Dr Oz segment about this awhile back). I don’t take extra calcium anymore either, but I make sure to have a cheese and cracker snack everyday :catlol:

I agree with your doctor ?. There has been no proof that high amounts of calcium prevent fractures in older people. It needs to be balanced with Vitamin D, magnesium and now they say Vitamin K as well. I eat a lot of dairy. I was aboard the vitamin train for many years but finally realized all I ended up with was expensive urine!:womanlol: A multi a day and a balanced diet is what I now do.:smileyhappy:

I only take 50mg of calcium a day. I like to eat dairy products. My favorite is nonfat Greek yogurt…lots of protein.

I take Womens 50 plus one a day, which has 500 mg. I also take D3. I was taking a separate pill for calcium and she told me to stop it. I have a family history of heart disease.

How much did she advise you to take? Which other vitamins were you thinking of getting as most don’t add a significant amount of calcium. I do believe though that the recommended doses of calcium for women are too high. We should eat our dark green leafy veggies and other healthy foods for some of our calcium intake. And weight bearing exercise is excellent.
