What will you hand out for trick or treat?
There is a campaign underway this year to give out items other than candy because of nut sensitivity in some kids. Other people worry about food items being tampered with. I wondered if this has made any of you switch from handing out candy?
I had so many Beanie Babies I collected along with my daughter-in-law, that we gave out Beanie Babies every year for three years. The kids loved them. It was an expensive treat, but what else could you do with them? They were meant for kids and it made them happy. The first year my next door neighbor’s youngest son went home and changed costumes and came back for a second one. I pretended I didn’t recognize him and handed it over.
This year I’m not sure what to do. Candy still seems to please most kids and surely the mother’s of kids with allergies check the candy before they eat it. What’s your take on treats for trick or treat?

I am still giving out candy and I hope an adult is with them.
In my City they have green houses which are houses they don’t give out food
with gluten you have to put a green pumpkin outside the house so the kids will know it’s safe.
I hope everyone enjoy that day and be safe.:smileyhappy:

Ahh Target got me today with the Halloween Candy. I got 4 bags (snickers, butterfiger, take five, and peanut M&M’s). The problem is, I will be lucky to get 10 kids. I will have enough candy for my late night occassional cholcate needs now, probably till spring! But if something happens, and a bunch of kids show up, I will be ready! (I only buy candly I like, so it won’t go to waste). 🙂

Love Halloween. Let’s me feel like a kid again. Will be handing out assorted small snack size candy bars. We get around 5-60 youngsters each year. On a monday this year. Weather should not be an issue. I love dressing up our front door. This is me with my orange leather skirt, in keeping with the day’s motif.

We always checked our sons candy and that was 40 years ago!
Then it got so bad with tainted candy, that we stopped handing out candy.
Then after Mom passed, we went to Daddys house (actually right across the street LOL) and handed candy or coins out for him.
The last couple of years we have gone back to giving out candy. I found that just 1 person will not make everyone stop trick or treating. It’s up to parents to allow or not allow and check their kids goodies.
But anyway we got that big bag of tootsie rolls, tootsie pops, fruity tootsie rolls, and dots! And we love all of those so if we only get a few kids like last year, we will certainly enjoy them!!!
And I HAVE NOT opened the bag yet LOL!

Candy for the kids and tied baggies full of dog treats for the furry trick or treaters. I think the parents of the kids with allergies will check candy and older children will look at ingredients and pretty much know if it contains something they are allergic to.

We get alot of trick or treaters. Our development is made of three cul de sacs that have one road coming in, sort of like a three leaf clover with a stem. Since there is no traffic racing through, some of the surrounding neighborhoods drop their kids off at the entrance and they cover the three circles and have a bag of candy in no time and it’s safe. Lots of parents are out with the little ones, too. They are so cute carrying babies in costumes. We’ve even started having doggie treats because people started dressing up their pets and bringing them with the kids. We used to get about 40-50 a year but the schools and malls have started doing alot of programs, which I think is good, and the turn out has dropped off.
Halloween has never been my favorite holiday, so I don’t decorate alot, I just do a fall theme, but I do think the kids are cute and as long as they keep it harmless I think it’s ok. I just can’t get into vampires and walking dead. I think it’s a generational thing.

We don’t get trick or treaters where I live. Sometimes one of my frinds that lives in lively area has parties and we all bring some candy to pass out. We have tons of Apple trees in my hood so if I get it together I pick apples to pass out.
If not I’m all in w/ the Snickers and Reeses!
I’m all for healthy living but, “when in Rome” on Halloween…get what the kids love. :cattongue:
The Beanie Babies give away is fantastic! And so cute about the boy next door and your responce. :catvery-happy:

I love how u gave your Beanie Babies as treats! LOL about the boy who changed costumes to get another one!! They were definitely a hit! If u were handing them out this year, I would definitely swing by. I am the size of a kid, and in a costume, u wouldn’t even know, LOL!
I believe good parents will check every piece of candy. I won’t feel responsible if I hand out Reese’s Cups, which are my favorite. If u want to make the kids extra excited, give out full size candy bars. Our old neighbors always did that and became the most popular house to visit!
