What gift would you like to NOT get this holiday season?

Lol, I used to hate getting gift cards as I don’t enjoy going shopping.  Now, I like gift cards, if I can use them online.  🙂    What I don’t need any more of is any kind of lotion or cream.  I have enough to last a many years.  🙂 

I hope everyone gets what they want this year, and I hope you get lots of good treats from your loved ones!  🙂

You should make a list a wish list for our children to use. Divide it into categories–books, CDs, etc.

This would make shopping easier for them, and you’re more likely to get gifts you’ll enjoy.

(And who wouldn’t want a gift card from Amazon?)

 ,  ,  , I know alot of this is my fault.  I’m hard to buy for because there literally isn’t anything I want.  Books cost $25 new now, which I think is ridiculous.  I can get them at the thrift shops for $3 for a hardback and sometimes they are less than a year old.  Same with clothes.  I don’t wear alot of clothes or shoes or accessories.  I sold jewelry for 35 years and could stock all of your jewelry boxes I have so much, and all I wear are two rings and hoops.  I don’t listen to music, I like foreign films, which are hard for other people to buy.  I tell them every year a nice box of chocolates and pictures of the kids.  Well, the kids pictures are on facebook and they area grown men now and don’t sit still for pictures.  

I think you are right about the Amazon or HSN gift card.  I can find used videos, used books and there’s always David’s cookies.  So I guess I’ll break down and say give me a gift card.  It just seems like the Grinch took Christmas.  

I had to laugh at the person’s answer who won for the weirdest gift last week, the pre-scratched lottery tickets.  That was funny.  Take that to your next white elephant exchange!

Haven’t you all gotten anything that you wish someone hadn’t spent their money on?

I definitely don’t want knick knacks for the house. I am wall to wall over here and need to clean out rather than add to it. I have a lot of things I keep for sentimental reasons that I have tried to weed out. I keep everything my daughter who I lost 4 years ago ever gave me and will never throw away. Last year my other daughter told me she had such a hard time buying for me because I had clothes galore and jewelry and everything. I said silly girl, I can never have too many tops or jewlery or gift certificates. Now, especially, I need clothes again. I’m a big reader (Mixmaster I always said God should have created man in Myron Bolitar’s image :)) and gc’s from Amazon would be greatly appreciated. But I’m supposed to be telling what I DON”T want. Knick Knacks is my big answer.

LOL…reminds me of the time my brother gave me a pair of striped socks with toes.  My brother and his wife used to buy in bulk.  So all the men in the family would get the same shirt but in different colors.   Finally, we started drawing names, and it became a joke among the family whose name my brother was going to draw.  He and his wife picked out weird gifts.

I like how since us kids are grown up now, gifts are optional in my family. No one expects anything. If I get something, I appreciate the thought, whether I keep it or donate it. I have too many socks and really don’t need any more.

My boyfriend’s family tradition is to gift every single member, and he dreads this time of year, bc he doesn’t have the funds. I feel bad for him. I don’t attend holidays w his family anymore, but I always send small gifts, like hand creams. It takes the fun out of it when u feel like u have to.

, i can understand where you are coming from with gifts. I try to ask what someone needs or wants for Christmas. I also give gag gifts and sign other people’s name to it. I do that to my poor hubby every year. One year he gave ketchup and paper towels as gifts. I have also reused cards that were sent to me and cross out the persons name and send it back to them with someone else’s name. LOL!!!  I do make cards with Anna Griffin kits so everyone does get a nice card from me. :smileyvery-happy: I try to really show friends and family that i do think and care about them. I try to give alot if i can because i want to bless people this time of the year. I think gifting is a form of love and caring about others. Although i can be very silly at times too. :smileylol: 

I was talking to my husband at lunch about what an ungrateful wretch I must seem.  I mean, everyone should have this problem, right?  They have so much they don’t want anyone to give them anything.   So he said why don’t you have the kids do an Angel Tree family from their church for us this year?  Holy cow, I’ve been married to this man for 51 years and that’s the most he’s surprised me.  What a great idea.  Maybe I’ll listen to him more often.  No, no reason to go overboard.

His gift to me each year is that he saves up all the free samples that come in the mail and that he gets at the supermarket each week, etc. and puts them all in one box and gives it to me for Christmas.  Even a can of dog food.  We don’t have a dog.  After Christmas I take it all to St. Vincent De Paul.  He acts totally serious asking me if I like it.  

When we were first married we had no money and two small children (first two years).  I mean, no money.  He was overseas the third Christmas.  I had not learned to drive until he left, so for Christmas I sent him a picture of my driver’s license.  I had remarked once I thought he would look nice with a mustache.  He sent me a picture of him with a mustache.  He still has it.  The mustache, not the picture.  

I hope no one posts that they don’t want to get a book mark made out of a Christmas card this year for Christmas, :smileyembarrassed:

, i think you and your husband are very kind and caring people. I think you are both creative too. I make bookmarks out of any kind of paper too. I bought a cheap laminator and i laminate scraps and make tags also. My family knows who is behind the weird gifts and reused cards because i have been doing that for years. Lol! :smileywink: I know there is pressure on gift giving and it is stressful sometimes. I try to make people happy and try to let them know i care. Sounds like you do too. :smileywink:

I apologize for getting a bit off topic.  I love Christmas, in fact I was born on that day but I think sending Christmas cards takes up so much time during such a busy season.  I love the cards with pictures of kids and families and I love hearing from friends I rarely see but to write or receive a card with just a signature from people I see seems like such a waste of time and postage.  I’m trying to cut down the amount I send each year.  I am not a Scrooge but this is how I feel!  Wishing all a very happy and HEALTHY holiday season.

I always want jewelry and decided to ask hubby for warm robes and gowns this yr too since I seem to live in them around the house.:womanwink:

But most of all,I hope my family will be healthy.Holidays are hard for me since my daddy began his decline on NewYears Eve,my grandmother died  right after Christmas,1 uncle on Christmas Eve,then last week,my last uncle passed away so close to Thanksgiving.:womansad:

So I seem to hold my breath at times until holidays are over.

But I still love Christmas and just hope I don’t get coal in my stocking this yr.:smileylol:

mixmaster… I nipped that ‘gift-giving-disaster’ business in the bud years ago. The Amazon Wish List has been a savior for our family. I have a separate Christmas Wish List for everyone… husband, older sister, younger sister, younger brother, son, niece, and 3 nephews.

I make these Lists according to whom I’m sending them. For example: my husband gets a list of one thing, (usually expensive, *lol*), from me. I only put one thing because, when I first did this, I put a bunch of stuff in there and he bought it all! even tho I told him in the Message Box ‘pick only one so I’ll be surprised.’ Well, I was surprised alright! *lol*

For the younger adults, I tell them the same thing, and they have abided so, I am, indeed, surprised. The gifts I ask for are financially appropriate for them… Used CD’s, DVD’s, and Books from Amazon… Incense, Candles… stuff like that they can get for under $10-bucks.

For my siblings, instead of asking for separate gifts for me and my husband, I ask for something for the two of us… Headphones for our computer this year, a DVD Box set of a favourite TV show… stuff like that. I keep it under $35.

The fabulous thing about an Amazon Wish List is that you can add anything from any website to it. Once you do that, when someone opens the Wish List, there is a Link that says ‘Shop this website’ and, when clicked-on, takes you right to the store. Easy peasy.

The first year I did this, everybody said, ‘OMG, thank you!’ and followed suit. Now, everybody gets what they really want and is happy, happy. It makes for a much more joyous ocassion to open a present that brings a smile to one’s face.

No one in our family suffers from the ‘stress’ that comes from not knowing what to give each other anymore.

I think gift giving during the Holiday Season is a wonderful thing, I can’t think of anything that someone would give me that I wouldn’t be grateful for, outside of a cold.:smileyhappy:

but other than  and the Amazon wish list suggestion why not just go for a store bought “gift card”.  We all know what our families and friends like so we know which one to zoom in on —-  Personally I think everyone involved would be thrilled and relieved!:womanvery-happy:
