Who do you dress for?

, You are so sweet my friend!  My hubby is a ‘NATURAL’, he lives inside his heart..A BIG PLACE TO LIVE.  He hasn’t change a bit in all the years of marriage.  Let me tell you what that man did today, Thursday, January 19th.  When I awoken this morning, went to master bathroom and visited my throne.  Lord and behold, when I glanced at the toilet paper roll there was writing on it.  I was hoo-dooed!  Looking at it, I began to read it.  Hubby, wrote me a love message using a black permanent marker.  As I pulled on the toilet downward, the message was going up and up.  It was really sweet, and he took all that creative time to do this for me.  How sweet is that?  He made me laugh, and made my morning/day absolutely ‘JOYFUL…and….FILLED WITH BLISS.’

I have been slowly going through my closets and drawers purging and so much of what is left was bought here on hsn.

I’m also big on comfort but that does not mean sloppy or lack of style.

I can relate to tetdurchop53 as my husband says the same things to me when I’m all dressed up for church and other times. He tells me I look like a movie star or fashion model. Funny thing is that one time a young man in a restaurant also told me I looked like a movie star. That was certainly unexpected. I’ve had others give me positive comments on my outfits. Of course a lot of the women marvel that I can walk easily in 4″+ heels. We should all have a positive attitude.

I dress for me! Even as a girl I could care less about what others thought or said. I had a certain esthetic that spoke to me, and never matched up to the trends. At certain points in time the trend actually caught me, and I do have certain designers that I feel capture my look. There are men who also like my looks especially my shoe game, and I have gotten compliments from men even more than women. 

I dress for myself and sometimes for my hubby. I like to dress how I feel for the day and I love having pretty clothes that are also comfortable and still look great. Thats why I love buying from HSN, I haven’t been buying anywhere elso for months.

Chicago high schools had 2 set dress codes-set by peers in the 60’s. Duper, ie penny loafers/plaid skirts, greasers, leather, pointy shoes. Guess I always dressed for myself, as I was one of few in hs who wore a plaid skirt with a cabretta jacket!! lol

I dress in things that I enjoy wearing. If others compliment me and they do, it assures me that I am making wise choices. As a young single working girl, I had few options. I’m blessed to have a large wardrobe and love dressing up. Just my way. 

The equation is me.  I look for comfort and colors I like.  :womanlol:

I dress business casual and casual.  On some occasions, I dress for black tie affairs.

My preference are Capri’s, T-shirts, and Yellow Box flip flops.  Oh yes, I also love floppy hats and sunglasses.  :womanlol:

If you don’t like what I am wearing, don’t look at me.  I am okay with that. :womanlol:

Boy, do I have a lot to say about this! Let’s start with my mother, shall we? *lol* Our tastes were completely opposite. She liked everything abstract. I liked everything frilly, lacy. I jumped for joy the day she gave me a bunch of cash to go shopping with my girlfriends because we could now drive a car ourselves! Before that, she would dress me in the most bizarre clothing… I always felt ‘ugly’ in my clothes. *sigh*

Since then, I have always dressed for myself. I found I didn’t even like shopping with my girlfriends, so, would go by myself. When a teenager, my favourite outfit was a pair of Hip-hugger, Bell-bottom Jeans and a Crop-top… or the same Jeans with a Cashmere Sweater and Pea Coat. Suede & Fringe anything and Knee-high Boots or Mocs were always a staple too. Remember those days, girls? *lol*

During those sensitive, peer-pressure years, I wasn’t too affected as I was always kind of an oddball anyway, putting on what I loved, no fuss-no muss, while my girlfriends would have 10-outfits thrown on the bed trying to figure-out if ‘others would think’ their ensemble was ‘cool’. *sigh*

When it came to boys, (and then men), I realized, (fairly early), that the only thing they were ‘really’ interested in was how fast they could get my clothes off… not how ‘fashionable’ they were! *lol* So, no, I didn’t dress for them then… and still don’t now.

So, once again, we’re back to dressing for oneself. Clothing is simply an expression of our ‘inner self’. Yet, when I was in the ‘workforce’, I was forced to dress in the ‘uniform’ of the day… lots of Evan Picone suits, etc. I looked good, but always felt constricted as no ‘inner expression’ was allowed at that time.

Now that I’m retired, I have the freedom to wear what ‘I’ please. My only rule is, no matter what you wear, look ‘chic’ doing it! Even if just going to the market in my leggings and a sweatshirt, my hair is up in a ponytail with some kind of ribbon or doo-dad, I have at least eyebrows, blush, and lipstick on, and a pair of hoop earrings.

As far as I’ve always been concerned, Madison Avenue can jam it! We all have our own ‘Avenues’, ‘Paths’, to walk in this life… dress according to your one-and-only handmade journey, for, when you look good TO YOURSELF, your posture will reflect that feeling you have inside… a feeling of ‘confidence’, of ‘pride’ in your appearance, of a certain kind of ‘joy’ that brings an inner smile to your face. If your clothes, hair, jewelry, etc don’t make you feel like this INSIDE, it’s not the style/stuff for you—>

I dress for myself.  I only wear outfits of one or two colors.. Favorite colors – black, grey, cream, brown, tan and navy blue.

I would love to say i dress for myself, and I do, until somebody makes a negative remark. Then I am that lady who is worried about making a fool of myself. I’m an older lady now and shouldn’t worry about other people’s comments. My husband isn’t the complimentary type and never says anything unless something looks bad. Then I know it must be really bad. If I had to make a choice, I’d have to say I dress for other women. Their opinions mean a lot to me, unfortunately 🙂

I think how we dress, and who we dress for changes, like the seasons of our lives, over the decades.

I know when I was a young, delicious, lady, I would dress to impress others, and attract others, if you know what I mean.(haha).

Now after 30 years of marriage, my only suitors are AARP, and financial planners who want to offer me free dinners for two, to talk about retirement decisions.   (hehe)!

All I want now are my “comfy clothes”, sweatpants, sweatshirts, and in summer, comfy shorts and tees!   Unless of course I’m going to an event, then I’m wearing whatever I can find that I can fit into that’s event apropriate 🙂
