USPS lost my return packages
I mailed back two packages using the prepaid USPS label on June 6, 2016 and it never arrived at the HSN return in Virginia and it has been over two weeks. It appeared the tracking was never scanned by the post office so I filed a claim but whose knows where that is going. I was trying to return two dublicates Diane Gilman’s items of clothing I received. Looks like I am out $88.00 unless they are found and either sent to HSN or returned to me. Has anyone ever received a lost item back from the USPS or heard from the USPS about a lost item. I usually pay for the postage and not use the prepaid lable, but I decided to use it this time because I thought the package would arrive faster. Live and Learn I guess.

Even tho I use the prepaid label, I wait for usps to scan & print a receipt for me. I also learned something the hard way. I put several items for return in one box-was never credited for one item, and since shipping label is for one item, there was nothing i could do, so be careful.

ANOTHER UPDATE:
I want to thank everyone who encouraged me to reach out to customer service. I did contact customer service and gave them my info and they agreed to a refund because I did send the packages back on time but they were lost and finally returned 7 months later, which was not under my control. I want to thank Sarah and Kyle from customer service for their good will and professionalism after I contacted them. But if it was not for you here on the community board I may never have come to the conclusion that anything could have been done. :smileyvery-happy:

Did you call the Post Office to see if they still have your items?
Please contact HSN Customer Service and ask them about this:)
Thank you for sharing and best of luck:)
Peace and love always,
Linda

DOOLIEE, definitely send a note to customer service using the Community area:
Customer Service, Need Help Section. The managers are great in helping to solve individual problems faster than making another phone call to customer service. As Florida3216 mentioned you have proof by starting a thread back in June when you thought your package was lost. Do give it another try…….

UPDATE: Two day ago I received my two packages that I mailed back HSN on June 6, 2016,almost 7 months ago, from HSN saying they were returning the packages to me because I was over 30 days late. So I finally got my packages back approximately 7 months later January 2017 and apparently HSN did not issue a refund because the package was received late. So I am stuck with the duplicate order that they messed up in the first place rather than receiving a refund. I guess I should be glad I got the merchandise back; so the $88.00 was not lost just wasted. Do you think HSN should issue refunds for packages received after 30 days because they were lost in the mail? Thanks again everyone for sharing your stories.

Just to update everyone, still no packages. I wonder what actually happens to lost packages. Do they just disappear into thin air never to be seen again, or do they give them to their employees since they do not have to account for an unscanned package? I am still hoping the two packages will show up or at least be returned back to me. But my hope is wanning. Again thank you all again for your support and your stories.

I had a FEW problems with the USPS in my area! I had one HORRIBLE few months when I had moved and given the address change to UPS AND to HSN, as well as the Post Office. The UPS was too lazy to bother to enter my change into the system and the Post Office wouldn’t share the address change and was refusing EVERYTHING! UPS was delivering ALL MY ORDERS to my OLD address, though I made MANY calls to both UPS & USPS. The person who moved in there TOOK IN AND KEPT ALL MY PACKAGES! Then to top that off USPS first lost and finally delivered a package (clothing) after 1 1/2 months. I had to return it because of size and for FOUR MONTHS USPS kept returning the SAME package BACK TO ME, even though I specifically, in LARGE LETTERING wrote FOR RETURN TO: with the the correct address and all. It finally got straightened out after nearly a year of frustration and mess! Then shortly after my neighbor asked if I had seen a package and she was going crazy looking for it for 2 1/2 months while USPS kept saying it had reached her zipcode and SHE must be the problem! 2 MONTHS later someone was in the POST OFFICE LUNCH ROOM and noticed one of the employees was sitting on a PACKAGE. The person took it away from them after the culprit sitting on it said, Oh, that has been in here for months being used as a seat. The other employee checked it out only to find (SURPRISE, SURPRISE!) it was my neighbor’s package that she had never received and was going through TRIALS trying to get anyone to believe her! She finally got it after several months, all beat up and crushed! I never did ask what happened after that, I thought it best not to bring it up! I learned to ALWAYS get a receipt for ANY package I return, but there isn’t alot you can do if it gets delivered to the wrong box in an apt complex or someone takes it off your porch. Then YOU end up out the money and package and you can’t prove anything. I had two put in the wrong box at my apt., one the person came to me and gave it to me and the other I never found. I hope you get things straightened out. Good luck!

Dear Dolliee,
NEVER mail a package back to anyone without having the post office scan your return. Whether you paid for the return or you mailed it back with the prepaid label. Ask for a receipt and the post office will give you a receipt with the Label # on it for tracking your package. If you mailed it back to HSN, within 12 days if the package has not been received, notify HSN Customer Service. Provide to HSN the tracking number (Label #) and they can upload that number through their system and see just where it is. After 12 days, HSN will issue you a refund and HSN will place a query to the post office as to the whereabouts of your package. I have had many returns problems through the USPS, but fortunately after 12 days, HSN will help you. They have helped me with this problem.

Hi everyone
I am still waiting and hoping my package will be found but so far no luck. Your war stories are theraputic. I have learned a good lesson. It would not be so bad if I was not out of the dollars I paid and the actual merchandise.

So sorry this happened. This has been a fear of mine, so I always send my returns back UPS so that I can get a receipt and tracking number at the time of drop off

Don’t feel bad, UPS dropped my Heidi Daus off at a post office 30 minutes from my home post office and instead of putting them in a tub and sending the next day to my home post office they sent them back thru the system 5 hours away from my home stating they were sending them to me the reciever, this was on June 14 I was to have my delivery. I waited and kept tracking my package as it had 2 pieces of Heidi in it and I have been biting at the bit to get and I called the post office everyday with the number and they tracked it & yesterday 6/28 my local postman told me it was in a USPS distribution center an hour from me and I should get it in a day or two. I opened my email this morning to see that USPS sent my package back to HSN. I could have ripped someones head off. Just because UPS first made the error when they scanned my pkg to the wrong post office & that post office was too lazy to put it in a tub and send it down to my local post office because they obviously didn’t feel like it now I am out my jewelry. Now that is major meanness and it wasn’t at all HSn’s fault. They have been graciously working with me since 6/14 on this issue. Good thing the police were not heavy on the interstate as I was traveling to an appt after I got the news as I was heavy on the pedal I was so angry at someones being careless. Reciever does not mean sender. Thanks for letting me rant. Guess I should have put this in TAY.

My neighborhood post office has refused to scan and give me tracking numbers. They only have 2 clerks. Once when there was a line waiting he had the audacity to tell me that the needs of a few don’t outweigh the needs of the many. Can you believe it? So I took my packages and left. I ended up at a mail center where the owner scanned and gave me tracking numbers. I wrote a letter to our local postmaster general and received a nice worthless response. It’s UPS whenever possible now.

At UPS and USPS always have your pkg scanned in front of you. Keep the paper they give you with the tracking number, it proves you sent the package.
I have had more luck with UPS then the post office. I track the package with the tracking number until it gets to its destination. There seems to be a big problem with P.O. employees (perhaps subs) failing to scan packages.
It takes forever to resolve a claim at the Post Office – if they ever do!. If something comes damaged, they require you to have kept all wrappings and boxes.
A few weeks ago I sent some jewelry back to HSN using their return label, the P.O. sent it to another town’s main P.O. and that P.O. sent it back to my P.O. It went out again and disappeared, however, because I had the tracking number HSN refunded me. Thank you HSN!
I have worked in customer service so be aware that when you call, the customer service person makes notes on your call so don’t be rude or fudge on facts, they have your history right there on their computer – who you spoke to, dates etc. If you get a CS person who has an attitude or says they can’t help, politely end the call, wait a while and call back and talk to someone else. If there is a big problem, ask to speak to a supervisor and don’t except “No,” – insist..
One more thing, for safety, use a P.O. Box address rather then your curb mailbox.
HSN will work with you, they are an excellent company.

There is not enough room here for me to go into how many rounds I have gone with the post office over lost packages, both sent to someone and some sent to me and never received. The ones sent to me were scanned as delivered, which means I couldn’t file a claim. Last week alone we got 11, yes, 11 pieces of mail that were not ours delivered in our mailbox. It has gotten to the point that we always go to the post office to ship things just as xosparklesxo advised.
We have had cases in the news where I live of teens following the mail trucks and stealing boxes off peoples porches, taking things out of the mail boxes, and one case of a mail carrier who was stealing peoples checks and not delivering them. This was a couple of years ago before people on gov. assistance had to have a checking account. Can you imagine stealing from people who have virtually nothing?
I wish you luck with locating your package. Do go to the post office and ask them to check if they are holding anything undeliverable that looks like your package. Sometimes the labels get messed up. You may have to go to a central sorting location for your area and not the post office for your area code. Sometimes you can get someone who actually cares and will put a trace for the description of the package. I actually had a flattened empty box delivered to me in a large plastic envelope saying, ‘We’re sorry but your package may have been damaged in transit.’ Ya think? arrrggghhh.

I am sorry that this happened to you. Our local post office has not been reliable lately. I am hesistant about mailing anything. I hope that your package is found and that everything will be resolved soon. Good luck.
