Moissanite

Charles and Covard have had an exclusive patent for decades to sell moissanite, and that patent is set to expire in August, and thier contract with the Cree company that makes their stones expires this month. So I am thinking their gravy-train days are over? What do you think will happen to the price of moissanite jewelry? I am hoping it will drop like a rock, and be like CZ’s. I do have a pink moissanite that I love, but I would buy more if the price were much less expensive than they are currently. I am watching Charles Winston selling them on JTV, and the prices are still higher. What are your thoughts on this? I realize they may be more difficult to grow, etc,, but I can only imagine that more competitors will certainly help the price point. But I am hoping that they will decrease significantly. What do you think? Thanks!

It seems to be that anytime a patent expires the product will get cheaper. I like Moissanite but could never afford it. Maybe we will see more of it on different sites. That would be nice.

I’D LOVE TO HAVE ONE AS A WEDDING RING. WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF THE PRICES DROPPED AND/OR HSN BROUGHT THEM BACK. (THEY WERE HERE YRS. AGO) I NO LONGER GET JTV AND MISS SEEING THEM. (I REMEMBER PRICING THEM YRS. AGO AT MARSHALL FIELD’S OR MACY’S . THEY WERE IN THE FINE JEWELRY DEPT. WITH A SALES LADY HOVERING OVER ME & PRICES WERE OUTRAGEOUS!) I ALWAYS FELT THAT SINCE THEY WERE "FAKE" STONES, THEY SHOULD BE ON A PAR WITH CZ’S OR A LITTLE ABOVE – NOT AS PRICEY AS THEY ARE. BUT AM GLAD CHAS. ALSO PRESENTS THEM SET IN GOLD. IF I WERE TO PAY BIG BUCKS, I WOULDN’T WANT THE GOLD WEARING OFF! (HERE’S HOPIN’)

Thanks for drawing our attention to this! Very curious what would happen. I think whomever will try making moissinite will have to be INSANE to lower its prices too much; I also wonder if a powerful entity would put an effort to squash/buy manufacturers and control the market the way they control the diamind market. I think, cheap moissinite will hurt diamonds, and I think DeBeers would not let it.

CZ has a visible parameter in which it differs from diamonds: refraction angle. Moissinite IS diamonds. That’s why IO think CZs are not hurting diamond prices but cheap moissinite would.

I know this is an old post but I did just purchase my first piece of Moissanite. I have wanted a piece since I first saw it on TV years ago. I purchased from JTV. HSN does not have any. I purchased a simple band to try. I will post what I think. Also JTV had Moissanite in every price range.
