Window’s 10 Anniversary update rollout- coming to your PC
If you want to download this large update manually, go to Start, Settings, Security Updates, Windows updates.
You do not want this update slowing down your online activities, so plan when you want it to install! This update took my laptop about 45 minutes to download over wifi, install, restart mutiple times to configure. I went into my settings to check my preferences.
I need to check out new Cortana features!

So THAT’S why my laptop was freezing up the other day. I was about to fling it out the window. Then I figured I would have to come to hsn.com and purchase a new one. Thank goodness I came to my senses. All day Thursday, my screen was freezing, mouse was not working and I was just wondering what in the world was happening. I upgraded to Windows 10 last year the first chance I got because I HATED Windows 8.1. I had no idea the update was coming.
I checked to see if the update was installed when I read this thread today and it was. But it was news to me. Thanks for the enlightenment.

When Win10 became available last year they gave everyone the option to reserve for the free download. Reason.. previous updates will no longer be availible and you could find your computer out of date. With Win 10 I do not have any problems and it is in better shape now. I was not going to pay $114.00 for something that I could get free.
Space.. I have plenty and I love the auto reminders and if somthing looks wrong MS does a maintence check. The Download is a small thing it does take 2hrs. or you can buy a new computer and tranfer your data. My old pc with the upgrade work as good as the pc with win10 that I purchased for a family member.

“The Windows 10 Anniversary Update is being rolled out to Windows 10 PCs across the world in phases starting with the newer machines first. You don’t have to do anything to get the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, it will roll out automatically to you through Windows Update if you’ve chosen to have updates installed automatically on your device. However, if you don’t want to wait for the update to roll out to you, you can manually get the update yourself on your personal PC. If you’re using a Windows 10 PC at work, you will need to check with your IT administrator for details on your organization’s specific plans to update.
check this info out for the Anniversary update (not the new 10 update) but rather an update to existing Windows 10 on the Windows Forums! -
I upgraded it from Windows 8 and it took well over and hour to install. My tiles and everything was a mess when it was done, but once I figured everything out (easy to to find answers online) I’m so happy I did it. My computer is faster and has so many more features than Windows 8 ever did.:womanhappy:

Yes, I tried this anniversary update on Windows 10 and it was a hot mess. I had to roll back ?. I have read that it can take hours for it complete. It didn’t take me long to upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 but the anniversary update on 10 is the worst. I can’t get out of it now, cause Windows 10 has automatically set a time for it to reinstall. I wish had never touched that “update and shutdown.”

Hi Tutti,
Had the same problem as you with taking forever to download from windows 7 to Windows 10..
Wanted to take advantage of the free download, but gave up after several try’s
I am using Windows 7 which i had when i purchased my Hp about 5 yrs ago…
I use internet 11 which Norton had downloaded a few years ago…
Am not pc savvy, and frankly have no patience for all the new technology which keeps changing so often…
Am over 78 and really so frustrated with all the different gadgets out there…
All i am using is a desk top PC with mouse and keyboard…
I really have to get into the new age as i feel left out..
My husband who is 81 does not know how to use a computer, and not interested…. Tried to show him how to use the mouse, but he could not…
Am so torn with what to get since i really need a wire free one.
Too many to decide to get…
To add only have one basic Verison flip phone which i hate…
Sorry going on too much….
Was interested in getting the TSV Galaxy but afraid i will have problems using it…
Also there was an issue with one of the Samsung phones where people got burnt or other serious things…
Think they were recalling them..
I forgot which one they were referring to…
So back to decisions of what to get?
