I have been trying to adjust to my new computer but it is running VERY slow. Is anyone else having this problem and what can I do about it?

Thanks to all that replied to my post. It is doing better now. Joe mentioned that there are a lot of different dsl speeds so maybe it had to find the one that I have (I don’t know what it is and it sounds too technical for me). I’m still trying to learn about windows 10 and need to call tech support for help doing some things. We’re getting along. It should be a keeper.

Hello,
You can run a diagnostic to see what is slowing down the OS then choose what you want to disable. Win10 is slower. Alway get rid of cache/cookie this will really slow down everything.
Set your maintenance to auto at 2 or 3 am. Average time for defrag and update could take 2hrs or more depending on the number of files.
JShine :catsurprised: I have had 10 since it came out and no trouble.

If it is Windows 10 I have read there are issues with some of the updates causing it for some people.A few have posted that after disabling Cortana that seemed to help.

I got mine last week…and it is VERY SLOW, too! Also bought PCmover…what a waste of $$$

Have you downloaded all your updates and updated all the driviers? If you’ve done all that, you may want to run the ‘Disc Cleanup’, it will clear out all the leftovers from the updates. When I set up my laptop (not the same one you have) I couldn’t figure out way things slowed down then remembered the clean up…it found a whole gig of unneeded stuff. You have to run the disc clean up once, then when it opens, click on the ‘clean’ button on the left bottom and it will run again and find the rest of the leftovers. Click on okay button and it will clean things up. I have a 3 year old HP laptop that I had stored in my closet for a about 5 months (I’m going to send it to my daughter after I upgrade it to Windows 10), got it out today, ran the 71 updates and then did the disc cleanup on it and had about 3/4 of a gig of stuff that needed cleaned. If it’s really full it may take a while to run everything but I’ve found that it really helps. Good luck :cathappy:
P.S. If you can’t find it, just do a search and it’ll show up.

Exactly what’s running slow? Only certain programs? Certain sites? Certain browsers? Is it taking too long to boot up or shut down?
