Samsung galaxy S5 Tracfone
Upgraded from LG 4g LTE the LG was always 4g the Samsung is not a true 4g, I have been told by Tracfone I have to turn phone off then on again to get 4g. The setting on Samsung preferred data is set for LTE/CDMA so when I go to data it should be on 4g but comes up 3g. The number of bars should not have an effect on the 3g or 4g since it is set on 4g. I have the same amount of bars on new phone as I did on the LG. You are paying 500.00 for a phone that does not have what you are paying for. I live only 3 miles from the Verizon tower. Tracfone has not addressed this issue and neither has HSN. Is anyone else having this issue?

Liz – If you have the Samsung galaxy 5S you don’t use the *22890. I was told by the Mgr. @ tracfone that if the reps tell you to use it DON’T. I am not sure why this phone is different but when my new Simcard came and I installed it I didn’t use it and and have not had a problem with the 4g since.

After a month trying to correct the issue with the phone, I think finally the issue has been corrected. I have had 4G about 17 hrs. A manager at Tracfone informed me that when you transfer your old phone to the new Galaxy 5 you are not suppose to use the *22890. Every rep told me to use that each time they tried to fix my phone. He said never do that to this phone.

Does anyone else that has this phone have a problem getting 4G to work mine keeps going to 3G alot of money for a 3G phone.

New phone came and the 4g worked about an hour then went to 3g. I have not gotten any answers from tracfone or HSN regarding this issue. You are not getting what you pay for on this phone and also this phone is kitkat and lollipop and tracfone is upgrading the system. If i don’t get answers regarding these 2 issues will return the phone. Tracfone is selling a product that says it’s 4g and it is not.

Update didn’t work for long. Disgusted

UPDATE———— phone is now working on LTE finally got someone smart enough to figure out what was wrong so will post this so if anyone else is having an issue they can apply the fix. The phone should get 4g regardless of signal strength and you SHOULD NOT have to cut your phone off and on to get it. If you checked to see if your zip code was compatible with the phone you should have no problem getting 4g.
THE FIX WAS TO TURN ON AIRPLANE MODE AND TURN IT OFF AGAIN. This corrected the problem and now when I turn Data on it is in 4g.

runnomore- I have the same signal strength as was on the AT&T LG sunset so that isn’t the problem. I have been using tracfone a lot of years and never had a prblem from either carrier. The Verizon tower is 3.4 miles from my house and even sitting in in front of the tower it is still 3g witjh all the bars. My LG would only have 1 bar and it was still 4g. So signal strength is not the problem. I should not have to turn the phone off and then on to get 4g.since the phone is LTE and set in data for LTE/CDMA. If I turn off the phone with 1 bar and turn it back on and still have 1 bar but can get 4g. then there is a problem with Tracfone and Verison.

Which LG phone are you referring to? If you’re talking about LG Sunset, then that’s using AT&T and your Samsung is Verizon, hence getting different signals. There’s an app called Signal Check and check that out.
I know when I was using Tracfone (both on AT&T and Verizon), my signal strength were always very weak but I live in a very congested area and my neigbors/friends who has AT&T or Verizon or Tmobile always had full bars whereas mine was always 1-2 bars, making me think I had a low priority. (I still have Tracfone as my backup backup phone though.)

Still waiting on replacement phone and still waiting to hear something on why this phone is not getting 4g. I sat in front of the Verizon tower and still 3g., doesn’t matter where I go no 4g. Really gettin frustrated with HSN and Tracfone about this issue. Worried that new phone will be the same.

Oh no! I ordered the Galaxy E5 through Tracfone which, according to Tracfone Reviewer, is also supposed to be LTE/4G. Its due to arrive next week. I’m sure hoping that it is 4G, otherwise, I’ll have to return it, and just go to Verizon and get one on their prepaid plan, which I’d rather not do. I prefer to use Tracfone, which I’ve had for about six years and have never had a problem with them, but would like a more updated phone. Please give an update if you do get yours to work as 4G. 🙂

Thanks! I will check. I wonder why AL does not carry their seal of approval.

It’s nice to come into contact with people who take the time to become informed by getting the facts first. My wife takes supplements to help control her cholesterol. She had a high but acceptable count and our doctor wanted to put her on a drug to lower it. The supplement worked and there was no need for a drug that could produce the possible side effects. There are people, though, who do need the additional help of drugs.
