Help from any Samsung J7 owners… Item # 517-571 – Virgin Mobile
Okay, so does anyone have the Samsung J7 from Virgin Mobile?
The hosts on the video and the site both say it is the “Newest version”, “2016” release. But in checking it out online I found out that it actually looks like the 2015 model with the slower processor and less pixels on the screen.
So, I am wondering if it is actually the 2015 Version phone but being called the 2016 because it is being released in 2016. If that is the case that is false advertising!!! If you look online you will clearly see the 2016 version has an oval speaker that is located on the left side of the camera lens where on the 2015 it is two bars (not oval) and on the right of the camera lens as this phone has. (look on the back cover of the phone)
I have been told if you open the Settings app, scroll to About Phone, then scroll down until you see the model name listed, the 2015 model will be called the ‘Galaxy J7’, while the 2016 model will be called ‘Galaxy J7 (2016)’. Can someone who has purchased this phone thru HSN check the setting on their phone and tell me what it says?
I know in the past the hosts have said “it’s the latest and the greatest” to A LOT of electronics (phones, camera’s, TV’s…) only to find out it is an older model they are trying to sell as the newer model.
Thanks for any help from those who have purchased this phone from HSN.

, I don’t have this phone but would like to comment.
I listened to the video presentation, and didn’t hear anything that said the phone was the most current model. The brand new cell phone expert did say that the phone has Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but incorrectly said that it (Marshmallow) was the latest and greatest of everything Android is doing, and that you’re not getting last year’s version (of Android). She was wrong, because Android Marshmallow came out in 2015. Android Nougat was released in August 2016, and HSN’s video was released in October 2016.
Yes, HSN is selling the 2015 J7. Virgin Mobile generally doesn’t offer the most current Android phones with their service. They’re still selling the 2015 J7 for $199.00, and don’t even have the 2016 J7. With the free month of service and other freebies, HSN is selling a really nice phone at a great price, IMHO.
I’ve been with Virgin Mobile for about 9 years or so. I’ve had several phones and none of them were ever a newly released model. I bought my current phone from HSN, a similar type deal. I forget when but it was well over a year ago I’m sure. It’s still running Android Lollipop, and I don’t think it’s going to be updated any further. It’s my favorite of all the phones I’ve owned, and I don’t plan on getting another any time soon.
