Youve Got the Look, or Do You
How many of you ladies are constantly changing your hairdo and makeup to achieve “the look”? I’m always changing things up, hoping to find that look that will put me in the pretty woman seat (I’m not talking about the movie:)) I’m sure that’s what the different cosmetic companies are striving for. They will make their presentations so interesting and fun, and then they take a plain Jane and transform her into a goddess. When I was younger I used to think by the time I was this age, who cared what I looked like? It would no longer be important to me. Yet I find I’m still searching for that look and buying beauty products all the time and changing my hair. Am I alone? Also, have you found beauty products that finally deliver the look you have been searching for?

Pammy did you make it to the Brow Bar?
I only look good with long layered hair. I add more highlights in the summer and low lights in the winter. I play with colored eyeliners to go with my outfit or bring out my eye color. I only look good in a few shades of lipstick.
At my age I pretty much know what works well and I never follow what is trending in hair and make-up, finger nail polish etc.
I have a lot of pink in my skin tone and many things just do not look good w/ it. I have a better range of options when my skin is darker in the summer.

Pamlou, I am one of those people who sticks with a look. I have long dark hair and I had it short many years ago (which I hated on me), layered (which didn’t work for me either), bangs (which tended to fall in my face no matter what I did), and lighter (which when I saw it, I KNEW I was a very deep brunette at heart and ran to get it fixed the next day). It’s now a signature look for me – wearing it long and straight (even though it’s naturally wavy). Thank God I’m blessed with shiny hair. I have tons of makeup but tend to stay with neutral eyeshadow. The lipsticks I love have all been discontinued but I still have a stash of them. I like a lot of mascara on my lashes (not Tammy Faye Baker style though!). I try new things but tend to stick with a certain look. Sometimes I wish I was more adventurous but this is the look I’m comfortable with.

Pammy, the only thing I change about my appearance, from time-to-time, are my Bangs. I’ll have them short forever it seems, like in my Avatar photo, (taken when I was, I don’t know, 60 or so?), and then I’ll let them grow out long, part them in the middle, and use a Curling Iron to give them a wave. Other than that, I haven’t changed my ‘look’, as far as Cosmetics go, for ages. Compare the Pic below to my Avatar… not much difference, eh? Just Older, Greyer, and Wearier! *rofl*

So many people comment on my look
and it’s all my own..makes me happy!
While on vacation ..out of nowhere ppl
loved my purse,shoes and clothes.
Wasn’t expecting so many comments
but,at my age they are welcome, that’s for sure!

My makeup stays basically the same–mascara, foundation, and sometimes lipstick. I like trying new products and looks, but usually go back to the same (very) basic thing.
One thing that doesn’t change is how much I like getting manis and pedis. It’s such a perk for me, and I love trying new shades of polish. Nicely-polished nails are a part of my “look”.
What I am constantly changing is my hair color. I have tried so many different blonde shades, looking for that perfect one! It kind of drives my daughter crazy; she colors my hair. I always say: OK this is the one, I’m sticking with this one. But she knows me better.

Other than having shorter hair years ago, I have found my look and kept it the same. A couple of times a month I will get a blowout at the salon and wear it straight but am most happy slicking it back into a straight ponytail. I feel most comfortable that way, plus it’s just too hot and humid in Florida to do anything but! As far as makeup, I found a simple look that hasn’t changed since my 20’s. I do add “false eyelashes” when I go out, because being blonde there is not much there!! You lucky brunettes:smileyhappy:
Thanks Faire for posting your pic, here are my looks, hope others here will post pic’s too!:womanvery-happy:

I wouldn’t say I am constantly changing my look. I do update my makeup every 6 months or so and my wardrobe on a regular basis. I am very lucky to have healthy long, shiny blonde hair which I either curl or wear straight. I have never changed the color and have always had long hair but I can definitely change the look with just styling. I wear makeup and jewelry ever day. My nails and toes are always polished. Yep I am high maintenance! What I am wearing right now is pretty typical of casual wear for me, black skinny pants, long black cowl neck sweater, black riding boots, HD Master Clasp necklace in jet, gold hoop earrings, diamond tennis bracelet and rings. I wear a lot of colors too, not always sporting the Sopranos look, LOL. I tend to dress very tailored and somewhat classic.

I’ve had basically the same look ever since I was in my late teens or early 20s, at least as far as my hair goes, and that’s probably the most distinctive thing about how I look. I know they say not to do this, but I think it works for me. My hair’s probably a shade or so lighter now that I color it. It’s a level 4 dark brown while my eyebrows are probably more like a 3. My hair’s on average shorter than it was, but the haircut is basically the same. It’s about shoulder length and layered, but I’ve had it 2″ shorter many times in recent years. In the past, it was at least shoulder length or longer. I have no choice but to layer it because it’s curly and I can’t comb it unless it’s layered. It gets too tangled. So I’ve always been stuck with this basic hairdo for practical reasons, although it is a tad lighter and shorter now.
My make-up is exactly the same because I’ve mostly worn just some foundation, mascara, and maybe a bit of subtle eyeliner. I wear exactly the same lip and cheek colors because my coloring is still the same. I do my eyebrows now to make them look more groomed and filled in. In the past, I didn’t bother with that.
I never was one to wear high heels, so my shoes are pretty much the same as well: 1 to 2-1/2″ heels, mostly sensible shoes. I have wide feet, and today I have so many more styles to choose from compared to when I was younger.
The thing that’s changed most about my look is that I wear few to no florals. They used to be a staple of my wardrobe, especially in my 20s. I don’t like a lot of prints these days, though I do have a weakness for paisley. I wear a lot of jeans in various shades of blue and black with classic tops, usually tunics. I never was one of the high-fashion women, so the changes are subtle for me. I do try to avoid buying things that look too “young” because I think that ages a person. These rules are meant to be broken, though, and certain women might look great in a style that’s usually considered for younger women.
I don’t wear nail polish except for clear because I can’t apply the bright colors so that they look good. If I did wear it, I’d stay away from most of the “younger” colors like black or bright blues, greens, and purples. I’m sure I could find some blues, greens, and purples I thought were suitable, though, if I tried. I’d probably opt for something more muted.
I think it’s important for people to dress in a style that makes them happy and not care what others think. I like to be comfortable and have never been someone who was very fashionable and dressed to the nines. I’ve always wanted to wear beautiful high-heeled fashion shoes, but I just can’t find ones that are comfortable and that I can look good walking in. Maybe one day I’ll add some of those to my wardrobe.

I change my look a lot. I have my own style. I like flowy, comfortable clothes. Interesting fabrics, layers. I own a lot of jewelry and change it a lot. I have clothes for everything… classic sophisticated, modest for church, casual, cocktail…. but I love all the clothes I have and when I don’t, I donate them. I certainly don’t look like I did in my 20s (I’m approaching 50s… most people thing I’m much younger), I think I look a LOT better even with weight gain. I’m just comfortable in my skin and with who I am. I love to experiemnt with makeup and try new products… but skin care is essential. I have hundreds of makeup procuts but am comfortable in just my SPF. Always, always wear SPF! The great thing about beauty and fashion is you can do what YOU want… if yu found your look 20 years ago or still like mixing it up, it’s all great as long as you feel good and love yourself.

I love trying new beauty products! But I have spent a fair amount of time learning about make-up to see what works best for me. At this point in my life I don’t believe some of the presentations. I will take a chance now and then to see if something works for me or not. And there is a lot that does not look good on me (cat eyes, for instance). Yes, I have found some products that deliver the look I want … but it took time and I spent too much money on the search.

A couple of years ago I found ‘Dressing Your Truth’. you can look up her website. and have been more less dressing my type.
The idea is there are 4 types of women and each has a style. Unlike other fashion styles that go with shape or size or color this is dressing for your personality.
Here are the types
– Type one- Bubbly personality. They are playful and sociable. The face and body shape is normally roundish.
They look good in pastel colors. No matter their own coloring. and they can do round shape jewelry close to the face. like big round pearls by the neckline. Becaue their energy sort of bubbles up.
– Type two – Oval face. Energy goes down towards stomach area. Their personality is nurturing and comforting of others. They can do femenin styles, bows, lace and frill. They look good in oval jewlery and summer colors.
– Type three – Dynamin woman. They are energatic and on the go. Their energy is sort of zigzag. They look good in fall colors. and also if htey have movement to the hair with layers and highlights.
– Type four – The quiet confident woman. Their energy is still. They usually have a symmetrical face. Stunning beauty. They look good in classic simple stles and black and white colors. They are the only ones who can pull off black. Other types not so much.
So I figured I am a type one with bubbly personality. I have been more buying white and pastel colors outfits even in winter time. and wear more roundish jewelry around my neck. Even tho I have dark hair but I look good in pastels and colorful stuff. This has helped me quite a bit. Not to mention unleashed the goddess.
Because my whole life I felt there was something wrong with me since I was never very serious. But now I am a whole type. Playful is a total type and I am proud to own it.

I am NOT one to stick to the same things forever. I would get BORED. I like OPTIONS and love trying different makeup looks. I blame being a beauty product junkie on being an artist.
I don’t wear makeup every day, but when I do, I like smoky eyes w winged liner on me best. I like to be tan all year long. I have long bangs that give me the option to swoop em to one side or pull em back. I like my hair down to the middle of my back so that I can wear it in a high bun or braid it. I like having the option to let my hair dry wet and wear it wavy. One thing I’ve kept the same is my natural hair color; I won’t color it anything but dark brown.
The most important thing to me is that I always look like ME. I think Irish-Japanese is a look all on its own. :smileywink:

I love to change things up. In fact, today I wore a lipstick that was WAY out of my comfort zone and my coworker complimented me on it as soon she came in. I think that striving to be in “the pretty worman seat” is where I’m at also. I was talking to my husband (we are both in our 50’s) about being older and LOOKING older. I told thim that I thought a big difference between older and younger people is that young people often care more about their appearance, and therefore put more time and effort into it. I spent a couple of decades looking like I didn’t really care. Then, one day, I saw Iman on HSN. I hadn’t really watched HSN, but that was the beginning of my transformation. I now try to look as good as possible whenever I can. People really respond in a positive way. I feel accessories make a HUGE difference in putting the whole outfit together and have really found some great ones right here on HSN, namely scarves and jewelry. I also put a lot of thought, effort (and searching) into an outfit my husband was going to wear to a wedding. He is 6’6″ tall so finding stylish things is a challenge, but I found a light, but not too light, blue sport coat with a dark blue stiching and some blue oxfords that were very different than what he is used to wearing. He wore those with really nice, non-dad jeans and a button up shirt and everyone was talking about how great he looked. In fact, the DJ, who I think assumed he would be the most stylish guy in the place, really gave him some kudos.
