Botox and Fillers
What are your opinions of botox and fillers to use along with your favorite beauty products? I know I would never have plastic surgery but the ladies at my beauty shop go in for botox and rejuviderm (I may be saying that wrong but it is fillers) and I went with them to observe the last time they went. Opinions, please.

Juverderm done by Dermatologist/Dr. can be very rewarding if done right. Juverderm Voluma is used in the upper cheek area to add volume and lift. That may help pull up smile lines a bit. If there are deeper lines around the mouth area, then additional fillers will be needed. Some woman develope a flattened upper lip later on in age, and Juverderm injected above the lip line, and into the lips can give a nice hydrated, and plumped look. I’ve seen it, and it looks very natural. The amount of syringes really depends on how deep the lines are. I’ve read online from Plastic surgeons that the average for just mouth lines are about 2 syringes. I’ve seen woman after 6 syringes placed in both cheeks, and entire mouth area, and lips…look absolutely beautiful. It can be done gradually, and add as you go over a few months. You can google it, and see before and afters, and many answered questions from Surgeons. As for myself…I have had consultaion with my Dermatalogist, to hear her opinion on my face, and my specific desires. That way, I can know just what it would take to achieve my goals. Juverderm runs from $600-$800 a syringe. Not cheap, but It can last up to 2 yrs (Voluma), with minimal touch-ups in between. That being at least 1 syringe. So initially…start up is quite costly, if you want to see any improvement.
I won’t use botox..it’s Bottulism. I’d rather plump out a line, not paralyze it with bacteria. Too risky for me. Personally, I miss my pouty upper lip, and HATE my smile lines. I feel they aged me, and I want to look refreshed. So I would do Juverderm when affordable.:womanvery-happy:

, i think it is getting very common to have botox done. I have heard of botox parties you can attend and get it done. I think one should seek a professional and check credentials. I have considered it but can’t justify the expense now. :smileyhappy::heart::smileywink:

, I started getting Botox injections for my “eleven” lines when I was about 50 years old. I went to a recommended board certified Dermatologist and a board certified Plastic Surgeon to see which one did a better job for my needs. Interestingly, the Dermatologist’s work lasted about six weeks longer and she charged less per unit of Botox used. Both had slightly different informed consent procedures and post procedure instructions. It’s very important to follow their instructions for a good outcome.
Due to some medical issues, I haven’t been able to have the Botox injections for about two years and I really, really miss them. I won’t hesitate to do them again when I’m able.

I am c 68 yrs young. I will not live long enough to justify plastic surgery. However, I go to hand and stone and started on
LED series and get monthly hour facials

Although I have not had them done, I DO support these procedures for those who have tried EVERYTHING they can topically and are SERIOUSLY troubled by the signs of aging. As u know, one should not jump on the bandwagon just bc everyone else is doing it on their lunch break. Obviously, there are RISKS involved, as w all medical procedures. Unless looking younger is going to SIGNIFICANTLY change your life, I would hold off. By looking at your photos, I do not think u need these procedures.
Wrinkles fall into two categories – dynamic and static. Dynamic wrinkles and lines appear during facial expressions and disappear once the expression is gone. Static wrinkles are noticeable without expression. I would start Botox injections when static wrinkles appear. Ask your professional these questions found on the Botox website:
I would start Juvéderm when the loss of volume in your face has really deflated. There are several types of Juvéderm:
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC injectable gel is for deep injection in the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss in adults over 21.
JUVÉDERM XC injectable gel is for injection into the facial tissue for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
JUVÉDERM Ultra XC is for injection into the lips and perioral area for lip augmentation in adults over 21.
Ask your professional these questions found on the Juvéderm website:
Pam, I am curious as to what u noticed during your observation of these procedures being done on the ladies at your beauty salon. Please do tell!

I had Botox done for migraines for a number of years. 200 units every 3 months. That’s not unusual for medical use but is a lot of Botox in terms of cosmetic usage. I never had any bad side affects from it. It helped with the migraines, TMJ and occipital neuralgia. When done by a professional it’s quite safe.

FYI: There is a product slated to come out in 2018 that will combat under eye puffiness. Many skincare companies make eye creams and gels and claim that they de-puff the eyes which the majority do not. They are not supposed to make that medical claim…esp if it is hereditary. Forgot the name of the new product but but will keep the board informed.

I’m starting to get 11 lines between my brows… I don’t like them, they make me look angry. I’ll consider Botox if my trusted dermatologist believes it will help. I have a complicated medical history, so I think I’d also consut my immunologist since you can’t just stop Botox, it has to wear off. I would only allow an MD to do this on me, not someone who learned it in a weekend workshop. Not there yet, but I’m open if I can’t stop the 11! I have slacked on skin care as of late because I’ve been unwell… so I need to give my products a chance to help first. If other decide yes and others decide no, if has zero bearing on me so more power to what makes you feel beautiful inside and out.

In addition to Botox being used for cosmetic purposes of the face, it is also used as a treatment for hair. Hair? Yes, hair! LOL. It’s not an injection of any sort, but some kind of way they have formulated the botox to be applied to the hair.
I have never used botox or had any cosmetic surgical procedures. Right now, I don’t think I need that. I use a little bit of make up and that suffices for me (right now). In the future? Who knows. I never say – never.

Ten years ago, I had botox injections on the area btwn the brows. I have a horizontal line – not a vertical line or what people call the ’11s’. Believe or not, botox did not work. The cosmetic surgeon I went to was highly rated in Chevy Chase, MD. She was surprised and tried it again at no charge. Nothing. She said that she had heard (at the time) that botox does not work on all people. Now, I use good products that minimize the line. I did get rejuviderm for my frown lines. That worked. I don’t have the pronounced frown lines now because of the skin care I use. No more cosmetic surgery for me unless my face falls down or off!
Trivia: For her 50th birthday Jacqueline Kennedy treated herself to a facelift.

I had some botox injections many years ago for medical reasons. I had it done at the Cleveland Clinic by a medical doctor. The botox prevents the muscles from moving but does not effect the nerves running through the muscles. So, when you attempt to make a facial movement involving the botoxed muscles it feels like your face is moving, but it isn’t. In other words, unless you are looking in a mirror, you don’t know what your face is doing. I hated it. It lasted for six months and I would never have it done again. The left side of my face and mouth is in constant spasm but I would prefer that to not knowing what my face is doing. At least I can control it to some extent. I was also told by the Neurologists at Cleveland Clinic that sometimes the muscles can be effected permanently and there can be some drooping. Be careful ladies, as for a few lines and wrinkles, just remember you are beautiful to everyone that loves you, and you always will be.:smileyhappy:

I would do them both by a professional only and who has great reviews or you have seen their work. I’ve done lasers for a long time but considering it in the near future.:womanhappy:

I’ve never had anything done to my face; however, I’m not against plastic surgery. If Botox and fillers make you feel confident, more power to you.
I’ve been thinking about the “Quick Lift.” I have a “gobbler,” and I hate it. I’m still in the work force and will be (G0d willing) for the next 4-5 years. While I’m not in an exec position, I am in a position where I do deal with a lot of people. It tells my age…LOL! I have pretty good genes and people can’t guess my age, until they look at my chin/neck area.

good topic. I have neighbors that have had breast augmentation, lipo, botox, juvederm, etc. A very expensive neighborhood …lol…:womanlol: Some look GREAT and some look like you slapped them and their in shock or the deer caught in the headlight look. Some are so top heavy that they look like their gonna fall over at any moment. Absolutely ridiculous. Now my girlfriend has juvederm when there is a special occasion that she is gonna attend. She looks natural. Guess I’m just scared that I might have a side effect or something. Gonna stay the way I am…what the good LORD gave me. Guess to say, “I’M JUST DOWN TO EARTH!”

Pamlou, I don’t know about injecting substances into your skin. I have not done this. I have seen it done by someone in the salon. Their faces were bright red by the injection site and it wasn’t a very private activity. They were in regular salon chAirs in the open so everyone could see. It’s also temporary, and I think I prefer something more permanent.
Its a tough call with aging. If do try it please let us know how it works out for you.
I’ve been wondering about those non surgical fat reducing procedures. Do they work, and how many times does it take.
