Made in the U.S.A

Notice that this thread (and most of the posts) was started in July of 2015–so not much progress made!  I have noticed that more and more of the HSN items are no longer even give the country of origin and I agree with  that when it says Imported it usually means China or it means that they are getting theproduct from a variety of places (wherever it’s cheapest) so they don’t have a consistent country to list.

 Remember a lot of the products are not made in a factory that the company owns.  The other countries, especially China, have their plants that will make items for companies in the US, supposedly to their specifications.  So one plant is producing a variety of goods for numerous companies in different countries.  The quality control is suspect and many companies have had to issue recalls for lead, etc. in the products.  They then always promise to do more of their own quality control, but because of the repeated violations of US safety standard that is dubious.

If there is any chance to bring back a good percentage of manufacturing of goods back to the USA it is now (in the next few years).  Nothing happens overnight, let’s give it a chance.

Remember when your kitchen appliances just lasted forever and the only reason you had to get rid of them was because they were so old, outdated and just plain ugly?  Today, you buy a so called big brand name:womanwink: refrigerator, stove, microwave, and it falls apart within a few years or less! Used to be proud of those names.

Yes, Made in USA and European countries will cost a bit more, but boy do they last and don’t stink of hazardous chemical fumes or are made of cheap plastic that if you push hard enough it all falls apart!

HEAR, HEAR!  I’VE BEEN BEATING THIS DRUM FOR YEARS!  GLAD SOMEONE ELSE IS FEELING THE SAME WAY.  I’M TIRED OF THE CRAP-SHOOT OF QUALITY (OR SHOULD I SAY, LACK THEREOF.)  HSN, PAY ATTENTION!  I’VE NOT PURCHASED A LOT BECAUSE CUST SVC  TELLS ME SOMETHING’S MADE IN CHINA, OR "IMPORTED" (USUALLY A SIGN THEY’RE AFRAID TO TELL YOU!)

I never heard about America being nr. 1 in manufacturing. Made in Germany is nr. 1 and they are and have been great in manufacturing. Just saying 🙂

I don’t think a change in manufacturing will happen anytime soon. Unfortunately with the high taxes and salaries finding an American made product will be hard to come by. The cost of building a new plant in other parts of the world is far less expensive as is the cost of machinery and with the lower costs, businesses can put more into their pocket. I used to think that shipping in containers would be more of a detriment, but, alas, has not deterred the relocation of so many of our materials. So, items made in China could mean it was made in an American factory.

I try to make sure before I buy that its made in America.

recro… A lovely sentiment, but I’m afraid that boat has sailed. Putting Americans to work in the manufacturing of a product cuts into the profits of the manufacturer… which is precisely why they have all moved their manufacturing overseas. It’s simple greed… an unfortunate export and, might I add, disgusting, exploitive trait of the good ole USA, *sigh*.

Sorry recro, got off track below, I totally agree with you, would love to see more made in America.
