Chaco Canyon Southwest Jewelry is Made in the USA!
When I watch Jay King going around digging up rocks to turn into jewelry, I didn’t realize he was shipping it to China to be made. I checked Chaco Canyon Southwest Jewelry to see where it was made and lo and behold it says made in USA!!!! That’s what I’ll buy.

I wish I were a new customer, LOL!

I think it is great that Chaco Canyon is made in the USA. If Jay’s jewelry was made here I think that would just be the ultimate. The designs are gorgeous and the stones are superb (many are not compressed). I really, really enjoy his work and the items I have purchased were truly great deals. You have to wonder how his prices can be so low- the made in China answers that question. However I do think if his items were made in the USA and he charged more his business would still be wildly successful- I would be proud to support US based businesses that respect labor laws (I’m not saying that any factory in China automatically does not- but it isn’t a big secret that cheap labor is how brands keeps their costs down….). I’m just hoping that the HSN brands that have factories in China are at least operating as responsibly as possible; I don’t want my "good deal" to be at the expense of someone else’s wellbeing. I could live with owning just a few amazing things that were made in a way that I don’t feel ethically compromised by purchasing- that would be more beautiful than anything I could possibly adorn myself with.
Also I’m not picking on HSN or Jay- I am fans of both. This is just something that I wish would happen in the larger world of retail- instead of overproducing items overseas (sooo much junk these days even in department stores and even upscale brands) perhaps manufacture less but be of superb quality and in the USA, so at least that would mean jobs for people in a struggling economy.

Agree. Jay could send it to the moon to be polished, set and boxed and I would still buy it. :manhappy:

There’s no plan. Jay King’s jewelry is made in China but I still buy a few pieces here and there.

So wait ? Jay has rocks sent to China ? I LOVE JAY KING. LOVE HIS DESIGNS, Yet this post dates back to 2010 so maybe by now he has a plan.
:manlol:

So, you all are wearing Native American made jewelry and carry around certificates of where and by whom its made? For real? Its like buying a large commercial grade real diamond (read- COAL)and never taking off price tag… so everyone will know its a diamond!..
Buy it for the artistry or for the happiness it brings you, not for the sourse where it came from.
I prefer locally made stuff but if I love the look of something made in China more, I would choose Chinese made goods every time.

Love your work jay, just can’t let this slide by. Too many Native people I know , that work hard to make a living to feed their families too. blessings , Carol

thank you for asking this question

i was concerned as well, so i researched. i love his jewelry, however i only purchase DOMESTIC /Turquoise and Native American made. buying other than this, greatly economically impacts the Indigenous American communities and is considered imitation in the native community, similar to other items made overseas that appear to be Native American made, but are not. Federal law does not permit items labeled as Native American (made) when it is NOT. I am sure that Jay can appreciate this point, he work is beautiful, however it impacts him when foreign buyers but up and sit on gems/stones that he could be purchasing and selling. There is usually a stamp with the native artist’s initials on the piece of jewelry with 925 on it. i am glad to see that folks are inquiring, we should always be informed. blessings, Carol

Does this qualify as Native American jewelry? I see they call it Southwestern rather than Native American and since it’s illegal to call something NA when it’s not 100% NA made I’m guessing it’s only partially NA. Anybody know for sure?
