Turmeric and black pepper
Good Morning Everyone,
Have been reading more and more about how turmeric needs black pepper to absorb properly. Anyone hear anything from Andrew if he plans to combine these two. Or any personal experience with this combination.
thx

Hmm this is an interesting find ?! Thanks for sharing!

I heard Andrew say that he puts “activating” phospholipids in his turmeric as some people can’t handle the pepper in their system and this products allows your body to absorb the turmeric just like the pepper does.
I am sure there is more information on this on his Pro Labs website or you could call and ask, hope this is of help.

Everything I’ve read about Tumeric/Curcurmin says that it is absorbed much better when added with pepper. The only thing negative about Turmeric is that it can constipate you. :smileyfrustrated:
I was making a daily tea, very similar to others posted here, but the constipation was terrible. I looked bloated and like I was pregnant. Had to give it up.

DR ANDREW WEIL HAS RECOMMENDED THIS FOR YEARS . I BUY IT IN THE GROCERY STORE AND SPRINKLE IT ON FOOD WHEN I REMEMBER . NEVER MENTIONED PEPPER .MUST BE SOMETHING NEW. ITS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT TUMORS FROM STARTING THAT MAY BE CANCER .

Thank you for starting this conversation…I learned a lot and want to try this combo as I too have back issues.
For those of you who are so well versed…please continue to share.
Thank you all.

Certain types of turmeric (curcimin) need Bioperine – IF the Curcumin contains Meriva (turmeric and phosphatidylcholine), it doesn’t need the bioperine, as it’s water soluble and binds to the fat in the phosphatidylcholine. I use Doctors Best Curcumin Phytosome with Meriva (bioavailable curcumin), 500 mg. I have fibromyalgia and a degenerative S1 vertebrae disease and take 3000 – 4000 mg a day (6 to 8 capsules, taken two at a time over the course of a day) for inflammation.
I highly recommend that if you have inflammation, you take higher levels of curcumin than are “normal” for those who do not. It isn’t toxic and helps immensely. I’m hoping to be able to discontinue my prescription meds in a few weeks.
Andrew isn’t going to be able to tell us much about this because of HSN’s legal department. It’s mostly the naturopathic and homeopathic ayurevedic communities that emphasize taking herbal supplements like this.
Oh, and I’ve been taking a separate Bioperine supplement (from Swanson) for a few years – it helps make a lot of supplements absorb better – not just turmeric/curcumin.

Yasty.
I add Turmeric to my coffees, teas, shakes and stews.
Cardamom, and ginger with it too. Black pepper in with it everytime I use it and you canot taste it at all.
It’s so yummy. I love the stuff.
Here’s my tea:
Filtered Water
Juice of 2 lemons
2 shakes or grinds of black pepper
1/2/ teaspoon of Turmeric
1/4 teaspoon of Cardamom
a single quick-dash of Cumin
1/4 teaspoon of Ginger powder
1 /2 teaspoon of fresh grated Ginger
1/8 teaspoon of Orange zest
boil, strain, drink –
enjoy.
yummmmmmmm

I can’t speak about the capsules people are taking and/or talking about, bu when I worked in a daycare, one Indian familey would send their 3 year old in with a sippy cup that contained warm milk, turmeric and black pepper mixed in to sip on when he had a cold, sore throat, and/or cough. At the time, I had never heard of it.

Puritans Pride makes a 1000 mg cap with Turmeric Curcumin and Bioprine Black Pepper, that is what I use. Premium turmeric has curcumins included in the formula.

The brand I buy is Purely Holistic Tumeric Curcumin with BioPerine. BioPerine is black pepper extract. I get mine on Amazon.

Yes I am aware that tumeric needs black pepper or it will not work properly. I read about this when I was first researching tumeric. I buy a brand that specifically mentions that it has pepper in the capsule. Tumeric has helped greatly with a sore shoulder that I had for many years. I honestly didn’t expect it to work (as most advertised things do not work!) and was so thrilled and surprised that it really helped. My pills have a combination of Turmeric and Curcumin. The info about this pill says that without pepper the ingredients cannot be absorbed into the system.

I have never heard this before now.
