The game "Score"– what’s the strategy?
Hi, I’ve been playing the game "Score" quite a bit, and I still cannot figure out why sometimes I can "unlock" the colors (i.e., get to 100) faster than other times. What I mean is, in some games I’m matching 3 colors very steadily, no let-up, yet the score doesn’t always change, or it creeps along, point by point. Other times, I feel like I’m doing the same thing, but it whizzes along and if I’m lucky, I hit 100 very quickly, with several minutes to play the next board(s).
I realize that there are special blocks that clear the board faster if you manage to use them. But even considering those, I keep feeling that there is something else I am missing about how Score works. Something they don’t explain in the rules, maybe?
Also, sometimes I feel like those special blocks (the ones that flash) appear more quickly, and more frequently, during some games than others. So I’ll be playing, and it seems to take forever before one of those specials appears, no matter how many "matches" I make. But then when I play again, I’ll start seeing the special blocks pretty fast. I’m trying to figure out if there is something you need to do to get the special flashing blocks to appear faster.
If anyone has any insights into this game, please share! Thanks!

Hi Lucky_in_the_Lou. Welcome to the forums.
The biggest thing in Score is what music you get. The faster pieces generate higher scores because the blocks tend to clear in such a way as to create cascading matches without you having to do anything. I haven’t played for a while so I’ve forgotten what the songs are, but there are 2 that are especially good. I usually refresh until I get one of them as the first song.
The special pieces are generated by what kind of matches you make. If you match 4 in a row, you get a bomb block. When it is matched in a group, it will clear all blocks within a 3-block radius.
If you make a match of 5 blocks, you get a cross block. When it is matched in a group, it will clear all the blocks in its row and column. A match of 5 blocks doesn’t have to be in a row, it could be 3 across and 3 down (like an L or a T):

It also helps to make matches more toward the right of the screen as that can lead to more cascading matches as the screen refills. Try to use the bomb blocks far enough away from the edges to get the full benefit of them.
Hope this helps.
