Heidi Daus gals: Anyone had a problem with a chipped simulated black onyx? Can I use a black pentel?

Thanks so much for all your suggestions ( I will keep notes of them)…

And also for liking the design in my ring  ( just hoped it was not a black ball but another crystal on there =D. I have the matching clip on earrings, too bad I missed the bangle’s sale  ( didn’t care for the necklace as it was too outlandish for me, and my tiny frame ).

Although I wish I could still find something similar (multi) for a bangle and necklace to match, still looking…

Yes, this ring gets bumped once in a while, so I will try to be more gentle to it next time and wet/clean it only when necessary.

Did try to cover the spot with a black pentel pen, so I can bring it along with me on my 3wk vacation with hubby… and when I get back I will definitely call Ms Suzie and have it ready for repair.

? Thanks for supplying the item number.  Pretty ring indeed.  I suspect with the raised ball on top this may not be the only time it gets chipped.  I guess the bottom line is, if you can’t wear it the way it is, you have nothing to lose by trying to touch it up.  I don’t think it’s going to be an invisible repair but it might get you through your vacation unless someone asks to see your ring and you put your hand out across a table.  I bet that might happen!!  But since you will have to send it for repair anyway, you can always try the repair.  If it doesn’t work, leave it home, which is what you would have to do anyway.  It is a highly polished bead and you will need the polish for a glaze.  I’ve done this on china and it worked fine.  I guess you already know this, but the bead is glued to the top and you also risk knocking it off, not just chipping it, over time as the glue gets brittle.  I’d wear it for special events and don’t get it wet.  Don’t let the chip ruin your delight in it, it will be lovely repaired.

It’s a single sim. onyx located at the top center, and around it is a kaleidoscope of multicyrstals (item # 414-856 .

May be I should try just a dab or a point of black pentel pen just to the edge to see how it will look like. If it does not blend good, then might have to leave it home and wait after vacation to have it repaired by them rather than doing a big mess of it myself. :womanlol:

? ohhhh! that’s a tough one. i agree with ? but depending on the value of the piece, it might be better to not wear it, and have it repaired.  they have that wonderful lifetime guarantee.  there is no way you would get it back in time.  if you pentel pen it is might affect the warranty. maybe you could call and ask them that. good luck.  i love mey heidi pieces.  have fun on your vacation. :heart:

You didn’t say where the chip is.  If it’s an edge, the Pentel will be ok if no one looks closely, but cover it with some clear nail polish also if you have any.  The surface texture is going to be different if you don’t and that is going to make the color reflect light differently.

If you have it on hand, the black ink in a calligraphy pin or black nail polish might work better.

The Pentel ink is going to look slightly bluer even though it is black, in some lights, but would take a close inspection to see.  Putting the clear polish or shiny top coat on it will help.

I know HD guarantees her merchandise, so long term you should be able to get it fixed permanently.

The cheap frosted white nail polish they sell in drug stores works great to recoat fake pearls in vintage jewelry, just in case anyone ever needs to know how to ‘save’ grandma’s brooch.
